Research Coordinator, RuTAG (Rural Technology Action Group) IIT-Bombay -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The objective of the RuTAG centre at IITB is to develop

successful technology transfer examples to rural sector by engaging the NGOs in the Western region. This is to enhance and integrate S and T concepts through design, analysis and innovation in the important space of rural entrepreneurship. The RuTAG is funded by the GOI through the Office of Principal Scientific Advisor to the PM. IITB will operate the RuTAG Cell which aims to bring together i) those who have successfully implemented a socially relevant technology / project that can be replicated or adapted in similar regions elsewhere, and ii) those who wish to contribute to such replication through horizontal transfer of know-how and systems. The RuTAG centre will act as a credible vetting agency and do the job of match making and outcome monitoring where needed. We are looking for an engineer-manager-social scientist with a flair for design and innovation in the public domain, who believes in inclusive and rural development. We also welcome budding entrepreneurs who would eventually like to work in the innovation and consulting fields for the bottom half of the society, in the core sectors of livelihood, health, nutrition and education including skill development. The basic work-profile of this person is to (i) run the RuTAG centre in association with interested faculty members of IITB and to (ii) document, modularize and disseminate the research output of various programs. This person will liaise with various stakeholders, analyze and document research output, hold key meetings, formulate methodologies and so on. He/she will interact with students, faculty members, bureaucrats, elected representatives, innovators, NGOs, CSOs and others. One possible set of concrete deliverables is listed below. However, the right applicant may have his/her own set which will be in line with the broad objectives of RuTAG in furthering the role of technology alternatives in sustainable development. 1. Identifying support institutions from among NGOs, CSOs, governance institutions, universities and engineering colleges as partners for RuTAG and prepare a clearing house of information. 2. Formulating projects and running prototypes for replication. 3. Developing instructional and entrepreneurship modules out of existing, proven interventions. The job is for 2 years, which may be extended. The right person could be: (i) an engineer/physical scientist, and (ii) a PG degree/diploma in areas related to development study (e.g. Economics, Social Work, Management etc.), and (iii) development related experience of about 2 years. The above attributes are not necessary and may be offset by exceptional qualities. The salary will be in the range Rs. 20 K to Rs. 40K (consolidated p.m.) depending on the experience and qualifications of the candidate.
