Dying to Choose: Why Australias Aid Program Must Prioritise Choice for Girls and Women
Worldwide, 215 million women want contraception but cant access it. Despite this, access to contraception has stalled and there has been a rise in the number of girls and young women resorting to unsafe abortion. With almost half the worlds population under the age of 25, an unprecedented number of girls will be denied reproductive choice, unless we act now. In developing countries, pregnancy is the major cause of death of young women below 20. By simply providing family planning, Australia and our development partners could help avert a third of all maternal deaths. But a lack of attention to ensuring choice is undermining Australias key aid investments - especially in girls education and empowerment. Adequate investment in sexual and reproductive health choices for girls and young women must be Australias priority. Unable to attend? Please transfer this invitation on to a representative. Thank you for your support.
