MASS SCHEDULE
GIRARD Sat. 5:30pm Sun. 10:00 am ARMA 4:00pm 8:00 am

Notes From the Pastor: The focus our reflections this Lent is on the covenant that God entered into with us starting with the patriarch up to the establishment of the New and Eternal Covenant during the last supper by our Lord Jesus Christ. Todays Gospel on the cleansing of the temple invites us to a deeper understanding of the effect of this new covenant in our lives. First, we are reminded that by virtue of our baptism (Latin: immersio- dipping in) we are immersed or united into the body of Christ. Thats why our own body no longer belongs to us (by origin, its never ours), but belongs to God. Thats why Saint Paul said " Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body. (1 Cor. 6:19-20). On this premise, it is clear to us that as Jesus cleansed the temple during His physical presence in the world, He also wants our body (united to His)to be cleansed from idolatry. Saint Thomas Aquinas identified four idols in our time that compete with God: wealth, power, pleasure, and honor. I invite you to reflect more during this week and throughout Lent how this four idols compete with our worshipping our faithful God in our lives. The ten commandments we heard and that many of us have memorized help us to trim our lives that we may grow in our love of God with our whole heart, mind, and soul. St. Patrick, Apostle of Ireland Patrick was born around 385 in Great Britain. The Irish, at the time, were warring with the British (so what else is new?) and Patrick was taken by Irish pirates and sold as a slave in Ireland. After six years, he escaped, returned to England, became a priest, then got permission from the Pope to return to Ireland to proclaim the gospel to the people, who were mainly pagans. He arrived with his company on Holy Saturday night, made a Paschal fire, and was arrested and brought before the King of the province of Tara, in what is now the capital, Dublin. As he entered the court, he handed the King a 3-leaved plant, a shamrock, and said, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. In that moment, Irelands Christianity began! He explained the religion to them in terms that they could understand, saying, There are 3 leaves on this 1 stem; so there are 3 persons in 1 God. After winning over Tara, he visited the other provinces and won many converts. He built 300 Catholic Churches and baptized thousands. He became the first Bishop of Ireland. He labored there 33 years and died March 17, 461 and was buried there. March 17 is a Holy Day in Ireland. Article written by Marcel Normand Attention All Young Adults, ages 18-25, single or married!
