16thTransatlantic Forum June 21 24, 2012 Berlin

Request for Proposals

Participation at the 16th Transatlantic Young Leaders Forum of the BMW Foundation The BMW foundation offers 1-2 members of YOUNG DGAP to take part in its next Transatlantic Forum, a German-North American young leaders forum which is now in its 16th year already and which will take place from June 21-24 in Berlin (http://www.bmw-stiftung.de/de/responsible-leadership/transatlantik-forum). This year, the conference topic will be The Art of the Possible - Striking a Balance between Participation and Delegation of Power focusing on issues such as new forms of political participation, legitimacy of controversial decisions, democratic representation of marginalized interest groups, as well as on the future of democracy in times of a growing distrust towards all political decision makers. The Transatlantic Forum brings together some 40 German and American young decision makers from politics, business, academia, NGOs and the media to discuss fundamental issues on a transatlantic level. With these forums, we aim to implement the idea of responsible leadership and open the door for young leaders to actively engage. To reach this goal, we will introduce the forums topic with top speakers and then take a day to look at best practices in the field. On the third day we then hold workshops with projects in the field of political engagement and education, which can profit from young leaders expertise to i.e. develop a strategy for scaling up or to develop new approaches. All young leaders who have participated in our forums form a vibrant alumni network.

You are eligible to take part in the 16th Transatlantic Forum if you meet the following requirements: You are 30-40 years old, have some substantial leadership experience and work in a position of considerable responsibility, have a personal profile with a distinct interest in transatlantic relations or the specific conference topic, are looking beyond disciplinary boundaries, have a good working knowledge of the English language. If you are interested in participating, please submit your CV as well as the attached filled out questionnaire. Complete proposals should be sent to Venetia Malim at malim@dgap.org by March 16, 2012. The final decisions will be made by the BMW Foundation. All costs of the Transatlantic Young Leaders Forum are covered by the BMW Foundation. Please note, however, that participants of the forum will have to cover their own travel expenses. For more information please contact Venetia Malim (Young DGAP) via malim@dgap.org or 030-254231-73.
