This is your weekly summary of news from the SAPA Board: Meetings th --SAPAs next General Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 15 2012, at 5:45PM, in Graham Room 187. th During the March 15 meeting we will be pushing to vote on the new SAPA Bylaws (which are attached). Please take the time to read through the Bylaws and submit, via-email, any questions, concerns, or comments you may th th have to Sapassociation@gmail.com before the March 15 meeting. Thanks, and see you all on March 15 ! Updates Spring into March Madness: Calling all SAPA grads, undergrads, alumni, faculty and staff! Join the annual SAPA bracket pool! No cost to enter. The First Four start Tuesday, March 13th at 6PM, so be sure to get your brackets in by then. Contact Todd O'Boyle (ttoboyle@udel.edu) right away for an invitation to join the UDEL SAPA bracket pool on NBCsports.com! SAPA Bowling Night: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 20 2012. SAPA is hosting an All-you-can-bowl night from 10PM to Midnight! Come out and bring a friend to Blue Hen Lanes in the Newark Shopping Center! Tickets are available from Diana Simmons for $7. Shoe rentals are included in your ticket price. Ticket prices the day of the event are $10. Further questions? Email ttoboyle@udel.edu, or stop by Graham 179. -- Committees: ---- Students that are interested in joining a softball team/committee, please read the following info. For a 10 vs. 10 co-ed softball team: the league will be divided by skill level (white members are beginner players, gold members are intermediate players, and blue members are advanced players). There is a minimum of 7 students per team (for a team of women: minimum of 3 players) and a maximum of 20 students. Also, It costs $25 per team nd th to compete. The softball season runs from April 2 2012 to April 26 2012. Each team will compete in one game th st per week. Registration begins on February 20 2012 at 8AM, and ends on March 21 at 8PM. Members of a team need a school email address and a valid UD student ID number to signup and play. Thanks! -- Graduate Student Senate Updates ---- Richard Rind of Parking Services announced that Morris Library parking lot began a pilot program for pay by phone-metered parking that will run for the rest of the semester. Next year's prices for parking are in the approval process but he assured the GSS that it is likely to be one of their lowest increases ever, and that the Central parking lots will remain open to graduate students. Students are always welcome to submit parking and transportation feedback to parking@udel.edu or bus@udel.edu, where Richard Rind reads each email personally. ---- The 2nd Annual Grad Forum has a Call for Papers out now and the deadline for submissions is March rd 23 . Please contact Jeralynn Miller at jemill@udel.edu for more details as she is organizing the event. th ---- ***International Students*** There will be a Town Hall Meeting on March 20 from 7:00 PM to 8:30PM in 127 Memorial Hall to discuss the OISS fee increase that occurred and other relevant issues. All interested parties are encouraged to attend. ---- Upcoming GSS events include happy hours and an end of the year picnic that is still in the planning stages. Events -- SPPA's Career Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration is only 1 week away! Next Monday, March 19th, please come participate in professional development panels and stay to celebrate! Remember, please to register through the website, http://www.udel.edu/CSC/sppa.html, and RSVP to Diana (dwalls@udel.edu) for the evening celebration event. Information about the full day of events and panel sessions can be found on the School's website. -- The 2012 Messick Fellow Lecture will be given by Dr. Marc Holzer. Marc Holzer is dean and Board of Governors Professor in the School of Public Affairs & Administration at Rutgers-Newark. He is also one of the most prolific and recognized scholars in the field of public administration. Dr. Holzer will give two public presentations during his March th visit. One is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13 at 5PM, in Kirkbride Room 004. The Second public presentation will be th th given on Wednesday, March 14 at 7PM, at the University Courtyard Marriot. His presentation on March 14 will th be followed by a reception. If you plan to attend the March 14 lecture, please RSVP to Diana Simmons at dwalls@udel.edu. -- Join the folks from the Disaster Research Center (DRC) for Fika. Fika is a tradition from Sweden where everyone takes a break to enjoy tea or a light snack together and relaxed conversation. A number of DRC faculty and students have traveled to Sweden to work on research collaborations and they have brought this tradition back for us to enjoy as well. Fika is held weekly at 3:00 on Tuesdays in the Roundhouse. Please join us and bring coffee, tea, or a snack. If you would like to purchase something from the Roundhouse, please arrive early as it closes at 3:00. Hope to see you there! -- In honor of the SPPAs 50th Anniversary, the School will be hosting a Distinguished Speaker Series. PLEASE CHECK IT REGULARLY. -- The Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Kentucky is recruiting to fill a visiting faculty position at the assistant professor level. We seek outstanding scholars who can contribute to our professional masters degree programs. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and teaching interests in one or more of the following primary or secondary areas: Public Financial Management, Public Management, and/or Public Policy. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. All interested applicants should send a letter of application, a curriculum vita, and a recent working paper or publication either as email attachments to donna.owsley@uky.edu or by mail (address below). Candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent as well. Candidates should have completed a relevant Ph.D. or other doctorate. However, exceptional doctoral students nearing completion may also be considered. It can be difficult tracking down information regarding outside opportunities, and so we ask that those students who have already taken advantage of such opportunities please pass along the information.
