Introduction
Due to the demands on peoples time these days, it may be difficult to allow for a set period of time to exercise. Therefore, a simple program of increasing the amount of walking a person does in a day can have massive health benefits. By monitoring the amount of walking done, people may try to increase their incidental walking e.g. taking the stairs instead of a lift. To assist people in this, a system may be developed to act as an aid in monitoring a persons progress but also a support mechanism between users.

1.1 Concept
The type of system being proposed is and interactive online program to encourage the uptake of walking. It will be in the form of program which will monitor the amount of walking a user does over a period of time and will allow the results to be compared to other users. Use of a pedometer will track walkers progress. Results will be uploaded to a web app and compared with other users in.

1.2 The Users

The main target users of this software are office workers, particularly males. The main problem is that this group of people are willing to increase their physical activity but do not have the motivation to move from the precontemplation stage of change to the contemplation stage of change. The user group that this system is aimed at is adult males who work in an office environment (or similar) where physical activity is limited. As it is recommended that adults engage in 30 minutes of activity, 5 days a week, this group may need help reaching this target so as to maintain good health.

1.3 Why this solution?

The use of a pedometer may attract this group due to the novelty factor of this gadget. Also males are motivated by competition due to increased testosterone levels and should thus increase the groups desire to be consistent users of the system. As the group work in an office, they are likely to be computer literate and should work the program with relative ease. Also as incidental activity can be used, the pedometer can be used in the office for walking through the room, using stairs etc. The system is being proposed to encourage people of a specific demographic (Male office workers) to engage in a regular amount of walking as due to working hours and environment, their level of physical activity is limited. A survey was

2. Functional Requirements
The system will provide the following functionality.

FR1. Secure Login

The user will have a unique username and password of their choosing to allow them to access their own information from this program.

FR2. Register
Users will be required to register their details such as name and username. This will allow a user to keep his/her information private.

FR3. Health Information/messages

Information regarding facts about health and staying fit will be organised and available to view by all users to aid their progress

FR4. Forum/Discussion Board

A forum will be available to all users to allow users to communicated to other users of this software.

FR5. Event Alerts

Event will be available to all users to inform them of upcoming events and activities related to walking fitness in their area.

FR6. Pedometer interaction

Users can transfer data from a usb pedometer to any computer and upload their data to be analysed with an onsite tool.

FR7. Media Upload

Users will be able to media such as photos and videos to share with other users in a designated section of the site.

FR8. Help Section/Faqs

A section will be provided to address any queries or questions that a user may have with regards to the working of the site or to any of the topics covered on the site.

3. Non-Functional Requirements
1-Anonymity
Users can have their personal details hidden and engage in private conversations with other users of this software.

2- Hardware & Software Requirements

To use this program, basic computer components will be required. Low spec components will be sufficient to use this program. Hardware - P.C Hardware Pedometer Hardware Internet connection Software - Internet Browser

3- Ease of use
The layout of the interface must be clear, concise and easy to use. It must eliminate confusion as how the software works as much as possible. There should be no bulky amounts of text. Also menus should be labelled clearly and allow for ease of movement throughout the site.

4- Performance
Media in this program will be limited in size e.g photo resolution to ensure that the system isnt slowed down by bulky files. However it would be recommended that users have a broadband connection to ensure efficient use of the site.
