ANewHealthCoverageOptionfortheUninsured
Peoplewhohavehaddifficultyfindinghealthcoverageorhavebeenturneddownforcoveragebecause
ofapreexistingconditionandfeelliketheyareoutofoptionsarenotoutofoutluck.Theymaynowbe
eligibleforanewfederalprogramthePreExistingConditionInsurancePlan(PCIP).
PCIPisdesignedasabridgeto2014whenthenationtransitionstoanewmarketplaceandall
Americansregardlessoftheirhealthstatuswillhaveaccesstoaffordable,qualityhealthcoverage.
Thishealthcoverageprogramisadministeredatthestatelevelin27statesandbythefederal
governmentin23statesandtheDistrictofColumbia.
PlanEligibility
Toqualifyforthisprogram,apersonapplyingforcoveragemustbe:aU.S.citizenorresidinghere
legally;havebeenwithouthealthcoverageforatleast6months;andhaveapreexistingconditionor
havebeendeniedcoveragebecauseofahealthcondition.
Eligibilityisnotbasedonincomeandenrolleesarenotchargedahigherpremiumbecauseofamedical
condition.

ThePreExistingConditionInsurancePlanprovidespeoplewithapreexistingconditioncomprehensive
healthcoverageatthesamepricethathealthypeoplepay.Itcoversprimaryandspecialtycare,hospital
care,prescriptiondrugs,homehealthandhospicecare,skillednursingcareandpreventivehealthand
maternitycare.
Monthlypremiumsvarybystateandenrolleesmustpayadeductibleandsomecostsharingexpenses.
