over the past two years. The State of MN
increased 3% in two years.

• The largest gains relative to the State were in


grade 8 where MPS increased 8% while the State
increased 1% over two years.

• A new MCAIII test was administered in grades 3-8


in 2010-11. MPS MCAIII (State Test) Math
proficiency decreased 8% compared to 2009-10.
The State of MN Math proficiency decreased 9% in
compared to last year.
• These decreases are likely due to more rigorous
proficiency cut-scores and/or more difficult items
on the new MCAIII tests.
• In grade 11 the State math test remained the
same (i.e., MCAII). MPS MCAII math proficiency
increased 7% while the State increased 6% in
grade 11. 5
