Unit Summary:
The class will be divided into 12 groups and each group will be assigned to research about the story of one Olympian god. Besides literary research, the students will evaluate how these stories affect the Greek Literature. Each group will present their researches, insights, and informations about their topic. They will discuss their topic through a presentation (PowerPoint presentation) and present some related films or videos. The students will present their works orally and each group will evaluate the performance of the other groups. After their oral presentation, their works will be published to the web.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON THE ASSIGNED OLYMPIAN GODS AND GODDESSES: Students read and respond to historically or culturally significant Greek literature that reflects and enhances their studies of history and social science. They conduct a research about their assigned Olympian god or goddess. The selections in Recommended Readings in Literature in Junior High illustrate the quality and complexity of the materials to be read by students. *Analyze recognized Greek gods and goddesses which are found in their ancient literature: Deliver multimedia presentations *Combine text, images, and sound and draw information from many sources (e.g., television broadcasts, videos, films, newspapers, magazines, CD-ROMs, the Internet, electronic media-generated images). *Select an appropriate medium for each element of the presentation. *Use the selected media skillfully, editing appropriately and monitoring for quality. Listening and Speaking Strategies: Students formulate clever judgments about oral communication. They deliver focused and coherent presentations that convey clear and distinct perspectives and demonstrate solid reasoning. They use gestures, tone, and vocabulary tailored to the audience and purpose. *Use logical, ethical, and emotional appeals that enhance a specific tone and purpose. Speaking Applications (Genres and Their Characteristics): Students deliver polished formal and extemporaneous presentations that combine traditional rhetorical strategies of narration, exposition, persuasion, and description. *Deliver multimedia presentations *Combine text, images, and sound by incorporating information from a wide range of media, including films, newspapers, magazines, CD-ROMs, online information, television, videos, and electronic media generated images. *Select an appropriate medium for each element of the presentation. *Use the selected media skillfully, editing appropriately and monitoring for quality.
Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
Students will identify and recognize Greek Mythological gods and goddesses. Students will Identify and apply universal themes found in literature to immediate society. Students will analyze and contrast societal elements in Greek Literature. Students will evaluate peer presentations adeptly, using rubrics. Students will locate, evaluate, summarize, and paraphrase information from a variety of print and electronic resources. Students will create and effectively present a researched, oral presentation.
Students will learn and practice or master basic Word and PowerPoint skills. Students will use Word and PowerPoint (or Publisher) to communicate effectively. Students will evaluate the validity of information found on Internet sites.

Each student must read about Greek Mythology a week before the unit begins. The unit will take 15 hours to complete.
