FROM THE COMMANDER

Captain Randolph Lovelace

On Saturday, 12 March, the Rockford Composite Squadron began its 2005 Orientation Ride Schedule at Emery Air; it began with Ground School in map reading, aircraft systems and instruments and other aeronautical subjects being taught by Captain Scherer. Spring has finally made it to the Rockford area! With the return of spring is the increased activity well be seeing in ES and Cadet programs. Thanks to all the IL-251 members that came out to support the unit on March 19 for the ES Training Mission with Group 22. It was nice to see so many people active in ES, and helping out wherever they were needed. My hats off to the cadets of Rockford Composite Squadron each of you did a wonderful job and presented yourselves in quite a professional manner. North American Pride Aviation was a great host for the weekend. For providing us space, access to the facility and ramp, the extra office in the North hangar, and all the time spent preparing for our arrival, we offer our heartfelt thanks. Mr. Nathan Jones and the staff of North American treated us very well, and were very understanding as we requested more and more space. We look forward to working with North American again, and next time, hopefully we can enjoy weather good enough to get some aircraft to the facility. Were planning to support the EAA fly-in breakfast on May 1. Id like to see all of you attend that event. Each year, one cadet gets selected for a ride in one of the war birds, provided by Courtesy Aviation. Make sure your flight line marshalling skills are up to snuff, and Id like to see all of you with FLM SQTRs for that event. Lt Stohlquist can task each of you for that process, and we can have a mission number for the event. The 22/23 of May will see a WarBird fly-in at North American Aviation. Again, please plan on supporting that event. For all that North American has done for us, we owe our support to their events, and Id like to see a great turnout that weekend. The end of April will again offer cadets the opportunity to attend the first encampment of the year. The Spring Encampment 2005, hosted by Group 22 is an excellent opportunity to meet cadets from all over the Wing, as well as honing your CAP skill set. Well be sending 4 cadets to the encampment this year, and hope to see more cadets take advantage of this opportunity in the future. Thanks to a generous donation from 3B6, LLC in Loves Park, the squadron was able to finance 50% of the encampment dues, reducing the cost for each cadet. Well be doing the same for the summer encampment, as well as helping you to locate necessary field gear. Get your plans made and your applications in for signature! The summer encampment is in July, and were rapidly approaching that date. You can learn more about the summer encampment at http://ilcap.org/se2005/home.htm With the arrival of CAPFLIGHT 1132 (N903CP) rides began with CAP Orientation Pilots, Capt. William Watson and 2nd Lt. Joe Long. Cadets receiving rides this month were: J. Scherer, S. Stohlquist, M. Gillespie, M. Dane, J. Wilk, R. Greenhow and E. Barkmann. Cadets who were not able to take a Flight on 12 March will have Priority for the next scheduled Flights. Several parents took advantage of the time to get pictures of their Cadets with the aircraft and the CAP Pilots. Although we were able to allow Parents and siblings on the Ramp this session, they will not be able to access the Ramp area for the remaining flights due to Safety and Security concerns that have been raised and brought to our attention; only the Pilots & Cadets actually flying on their individual Sorties and the Safety Officer will be permitted on the Ramp from this time forward. Thank you Captain Watson and Lieutenant Long for the Great Flights!

March Cadet Orientation Rides

Effective Immediately, with the Publication of the new CAP UNIFORM MANUAL 39-1, on 23 March 05; the MAJCOM Patch that we have been wearing on BDUs and Field Jackets are no longer authorized for wear on these Uniforms, and should be removed immediately. However, when we receive our Squadron Patches, they are worn in the same place on the front right hand pocket centered. They are not the same shape as the MAJCOM Patch, so the Velcro will not work for attaching them properly, unless you redo the shape of the Velcro. The MAJCOM Patch continues to be authorized for CAP Aircrew Members, with Flight Crew Qualifications on their Flight Suits and Flight Jackets. You can view the new CAPM39-1 at: http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_082203102943.pdf . All members should familiarize themselves with new regulations, especially when attending an Encampment or SAREXs and Squadron Events you can be sent home from activities for not having your uniform worn in accordance with regulations. There are also new Personal Grooming standards in this Regulation, relating to Tattoos and Body Piercing. When it comes to Grooming Standards; Wearing and adorning Uniforms, just because it Says you Cant, Doesnt mean you Can.

MAJCOM PATCHES NO LONGER AUTHORIZED FOR BDU UNIFORMS
