Thereisanoldsayingthatdatesbacktothe17thcenturywhenitcomestosprings weather,Marchcomesinlikealion,outlikealamb,andincomparisontothisfirstseriesof ContemporaryArtOpeningsatHarveysNewArtGallery&ShowroominWestHollywood, whereasIwaschosentocurateaswellasselectfrommycircleofartistsfortheopening thegallery,theexhibitionopenedwithDanPyleandHalYaskulka,twoextraordinary artistsofourtime.Needlesstosay,Iwasamazedhownotonlytheguests,butalsoothers stormedtheplacetogetatasteofsomethingoldandsomethingnew.

NotedasaHollywoodinstitutionfordecades,all thestudioscometoHarveysfirstwhentheyare lookingforperioddecorandfurniture.Harvey Schwartzdecidedtoleavehiscavernous130,000 squarefootprophouseandtoopenthisgalleryof vintagefurnitureandcontemporaryart.Itisa beautifulmarriageofstylesandgenerations. ItwasmyprivilegetopresentDanPylewhohas beendrawingsincechildhood.Throughouttheyears,

hehasdisplayedhisworkinexhibitionsnationwide, whereashehasnotonlywondomestic,butalso internationalawardsforhiswork,andasoftoday,his charcoaldrawingsareinmajorcollectionsfrom CanadatoMalaysia,includinghehasalsoreceived manyprofilesandmagazinecovers. Mostrecently,artistPylewascommissionfora verylargebodyofworktobepermanentlyinstalled

OneofHalsstrongsuitsisfigurative work;howeverthelattercametoa haltwhenhelosthismotherinThe WorldTradeCenteron911.Hewas unabletodrawanyfigurativeworks formanyyears,buthehasjust startedagain. Oneofthemostpowerfulworksis theIlluminatedGathering,reminds meofHolocaustartistJosefNassy interpretationoftheShowers. Howeveryouseethespiritualinall Halsartworksandthemusical inspirationinhisabstractpaintings like,KandinskyWeeps.
