Introduction

First of all, I would like to thank you for being interested in
Japanese language, and also like to tell you why I have
published this book.

The reason is simple. Since I have started to live in
Australia, many of my Australian friends have asked me
how to write their name, a particular word or historical
phrase in Japanese symbols especially after the movie, The
LAST SAMURAI was released.
Then, I realized that there should be more and more people
over the world want or looking for a help to create Japanese
symbols for their particular design need.
So, here it is the book for you and those who are interested
in or started to learn the Japanese symbols, language or
culture. You can use a symbol found in this book for your
whatever design need is without any my permission as long
as it is personal use.

Let me also explain about the Japanese symbols as well.
In Japanese, there are basically 3 different scripts KANJI,
HIRAGANA and KATAKANA. The use of them are really
depends on a situation. In The LAST SAMURAI, the scripts
you might have noticed was KANJI, which has been the
most popular script for Westerners, and quite often used for
tattoo, logo, jewelry and many other designs.
Have you ever wondered the difference between Chinese
kanji and Japanese kanji? Although KANJI are historically
coming from the Chinese ideograms, they are different in
writing style, pronunciation and sometimes the meaning too.

In this book, I have included over 30 Japanese KANJI
symbols with 4 different fonts for each word, and selected
KANJI symbols are mainly coming from The Last
Samurai and as well as those are popular on my website at,
http://www.dsfy.com.

I hope this book will help you!
