A HOUSING REVOLUTION FOR HARLOW

HARLOW HOUSING MONEY FOR HARLOW PEOPLE

At the moment a massive share of the rent paid by Harlow householders is taken away by Gordon Brown, to spend in other parts of the country. Harlow tenants pay over 13.5million in a secret tenants tax to the Government, with no benefit in return. 13.5million is over a third of our rent bill. Harlows housing money should be for Harlow people. Local people should decide how Harlows money is spent: not the Government.

This cash will pay for energyefficient lighting, modern boilers, and cavity and loft insulation. Families will see permanently lower energy bills, with zero upfront cost. And will never have to pay the money back.

Robert has secured a pledge from Grant Shapps MP, Conservative Housing Spokesman, that every home in Harlow will receive 6500 under a Conservative Government.

LOWER UTILITY BILLS FOR OUR HOMES

The real injustice is that Labours stealth tax is hidden, and swept under the carpet, because it only hits after our rent is collected.

Wouldnt it be better if this money was spent on improving Harlows homes?

Robert said: This initiative will create 70,000 new jobs nationally, and save a typical home 30 a month. It will help Harlow families and pensioners struggling to make ends meet. Im striving to end fuel poverty in Harlow once and for all.

Mr John Healey, Labour Housing Minister, has told thousands of people who face losing their homes that it might be the best thing for them. At the same, Mr Healey has made an 88,000 profit on a taxpayer-funded second home. Rob says: These remarks are insensitive. Home repossessions are at their highest for 14 years, but government-owned homes are lying vacant. Labour is not solving Harlows housing problems.

LABOUR SAY REPOSSESSIONS ARE A GOOD THING

7005 people in Harlow are on local housing waiting lists, and a sizeable proportion of them are on housing benefit. Housing waiting lists have risen by 294% per cent under this Labour Government reflecting the shortage of affordable accommodation. I am pleased that Conservatives have pledged to change Labours failed policy. Tenants will be able to choose whether to have their housing allowance paid direct to their landlord. This will increase the availability of quality low-cost housing.

Last year, Labour Ministers introduced a new Local Housing Allowance, with housing benefit being direct to the tenant rather than to the landlord. But vulnerable tenants often struggle to manage their finances and spend their rent money on other things. Homeless charity, Crisis, has warned that this can result in rent arrears and eventually homelessness. Landlords who were previously happy to take on tenants on housing benefit have suffered from nonpayment of rent. Many landlords now routinely refuse to let to Local Housing Allowance claimants. According to the National Landlords Assocation, half of all landlords are reluctant to lend to tenants on Local Housing Allowance.
