E.ON and Siemens agree on climate smart cooperation

Pressrelease den 16 mars 2011 E.ON and Siemens have signed a cooperation agreement for parts of the energy-smart infrastructure in new sustainable city district Hyllie in Malmo. The basis is a long term climate treaty between E.ON and the City of Malm . Together, E.ON and Siemens are now launching the work process which will make Hyllie a global model for sustainable urban development. Hyllie is Malm 's largest development area. When fully built by 2030 the district will include approximately 9000 homes and equally many working places. The energy solution in Hyllie will consist of 100 percent of renewable or recycled energy by 2020. Malm 's vision is that Hyllie will develop into the region's climate smartest city district and bring Malm on the world map of sustainable urban development. In its practical translation, E.ON and Siemens are now are now working according to the cooperation agreement signed February 10 this year. E.ON is behind the overall planning of the new energy solutions. Siemens is developing technological applications for the interaction between the actual property and the local infrastructure - technology that sorts under the concept of Smart Grids. - With Siemens, we get an internationally accomplished partner, with a strong technological competence in the area of smart grids, says Mattias rtenvik, responsible for E.ON 's Sustainable City concept. But E.ON, Siemens and the City of Malm , also have a fourth party in the collaboration in Hyllie - property owners have a key role in this process. The success we have, we share with them! - Hyllie is one of the first smart city solutions that are now emerging in the world, and we are proud to be the technology partner of E.ON in this project. We contribute to a sustainable society with energy efficient houses and households, renewable electricity and energy-efficient energy consumption, areas in which Siemens has solutions and know-how, says Ronny Hkansson, business developer at Siemens. Hyllie will get a smart infrastructure that can communicate with the technologies in the buildings. This will lead to a higher energy efficiency, reduced losses, better management of peak load and more reliable electricity supply. The smart infrastructure, combined with smarter energy consumption and electric vehicles, and supplemented by locally produced electricity will give results over the project time and beyond - a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
