MUSIC IS ALEXIS` `REASON` TO LIVE

Date of Publishing: 2011-05-06 00:00:00.0

Singer and guitarist Alexis Abraham breathes music. With uncountable mesmerising performances in his kitty, he is a well known name in Ghaziabad college fests. Alexis along with his like-minded friends formed a band 'The Reason' comprising vocalist Siddharth Gautam, lead guitarist Paras Bhutani, supporting guitarist Himanshu Aggarwal, Bass guitarist, Nitish Johar and drummer Jatin Gupta. This third-year student from ITS-Ghaziabad, is comfortable with all forms of music be it soft or hard rock.

Fondness for rhythmic instruments Born in a South Indian family, Alexis has inherited the love for music from his parents. He says, "Both my mother and father sing well and I was always encouraged for music since childhood. By the time I was six, I was already very keen about rhythmic instruments." Attracted to Congo tunes "The Congo player in my church choir was my first inspiration. Seeing him tune into different rhythms suiting different songs was intriguing for me. That was when my interest in music began."

During his school days, he used to play Congo in different cultural activities held in school. This was also the time when his mom taught him singing. The new drum set in his college was dream come true for him as he learnt that fast enough and added one more talent to his pool of talent. He can now play keyboard as well and is the keyboardist of his church presently. But his fondness for guitar grew only after he completed his higher secondary. "While learning keyboard I also gave attention to guitar. Once I borrowed an acoustic guitar from one of my friends and took her notes to refer. I could easily play progressions on that acoustic guitar because I already had learnt keyboard. It was like a shock for my friends, parents and relatives," quips Alexis. Achievements Alexis was a proud owner of an Acoustic guitar in the year 2009. It was at this time he formed his band. Alexis says, "We gave a good performance and grabbed the second prize in a competition. I took part in three different activities of my college in my second year college fest. I won in solo singing competition, instrumental competition and group song competition." He led his team in the instrumental and group song competition and grabbed the second prize in solo and first in instrumental and second prize again in the group song. Alexis gladly says, "My college witnessed first ever performance like that, especially the group song and instrumental competition. I feel that the leadership which I provided in group song and instrumentation was one of my great achievements." Dipanshu Roy Type your comment here
