STEP / TIME Set induction ( 5 minutes )

CONTENT Video.

ACTIVITY i. Teacher shows a video on how some children divide a cake among them. ii. Pupils will be asked to predict what they are going to learn on todays topic. iii. Teacher relates the video with fraction.

REMARKS AVA: Video

Thinking skill: Predicting

Step 1 ( 15 minutes )

Numerators and denominators in fraction.

i. Each pupil is given a piece of paper. ii. Teacher asks the pupils to fold the paper into two parts. Then, they are asked to shade one part of the folded paper.

AVA: A4 papers, Power Point presentation

Thinking skills: Relating, conceptualizing

Moral value: Courage iii. A pupil is asked to come in front to write the number that is shaded which is 1, and the number for the whole part which is 2, on the board as shown as below:

iv. Then teacher introduces what is written on the board as the fraction and say it as one-half. v. Teacher tells the pupils number 1 written on the board represents the numerator while number 2 represents the denominator.

numerator denominator

vi. Explain the numerator to be the number of parts that are shaded and the denominator is the total number of equal parts. Pupils may remember the association better when it is explained that down and denominator both starts with D. vii. Then teacher shows the power point presentation and continue the teaching using the slides.

Step 2 ( 15 minutes )

Group activity - Game of identifying the fraction using the circle fraction.

i. Pupils are divided into group of five. ii. Teacher gives a circle fraction and an instruction card to each group. iii. The circle fractions are formed by different colours according to their sizes. The pupils need to arrange them first based on their colours.

AVA: Circle fractions, fraction strips, instruction card

Thinking skill: Visualizing

Eg: Moral value: Cooperative during group activity, selfconfident when work in pair

iv. Each group will use the circle fraction to form and name the fraction as stated in the instruction card.

Eg: By using the circle fraction, form and name the fraction of

Name: Three-fourths

v. Then teacher shows the exact answer on the slide and it continues to the next instruction until the pupils finish all the instructions. vi. After finishing all the instructions, each group will return the circle fraction and the instruction card to the teacher to show that they have finished the activity.

Pair activity - Game of identifying the fraction using the line fraction. i. Pupils sit in pair. ii. Teacher gives a fraction strips to each pair. iii. One pupil for each pair needs to test fraction to his/her partner based on the question that the

teacher shows on the slide. Then his/her friend forms the fraction using the fraction strips.

Eg: Form

using fraction strips and name it.

Name: Five-eighths

iv. Teacher shows the exact answer on the slide and the pupil checks his/her friends answer. v. Then they exchange their roles until they finish all of it. vi. After finishing this activity, each pair needs to return the fraction strips to the teacher. Step 3 ( 15 minutes) Individual work worksheet i. Teacher gives some worksheets to the pupils. ii. Then pupils will discuss the worksheets together with the teacher. iii. Some of the worksheets will be done in home as their homework. Thinking skill: Identifying AVA: Worksheets

Moral value: Independence, selfconfident Closure ( 10 minutes ) Summarizing i. Teacher concludes what the pupils had learnt today. AVA: Picture card of

ii. Teacher shows a picture card of pizza and asks the pizza, paper with pupils how to divide the pizza into eight parts. iii. Pupils will use the paper provided to divide the pizza. If they can answer the teachers question that is mean they all understand the lesson today. Thinking skill: Inventing circle shape
