CSI1241 Systems Analysis Assignment 1

Title: A Requirements Specification Related learning outcomes from the unit outline: Demonstrate evidence of the knowledge set and skill set required by the systems analyst Describe and store data to assist systems development Specify business processes and business rules Model the flow of computer system Produce the specification of a computer system The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with practice in systems analysis. To do this you require a range of skills and knowledge. That skill and knowledge covers both technical and human areas. Due date: Teaching Week 7* Failure to deliver to submit your final (week 7) assignment at the beginning of your week 7 tutorial will be considered a non-submission of the assignment. The university rules for this are as follows: An assignment submitted after the fixed or extended time for submission shall incur a penalty to be calculated as follows for higher education students: (a) where the assignment is submitted not more than one week late, the penalty shall, for each working day that it is late, be 5% of the maximum assessment available for the assignment; (b) where the assignment is submitted more than one week late, a mark of zero shall be awarded.

Student Learning Outcomes:

* Teaching week means an official contact week for the unit. After week 7 there is a two-week break for SCSS students comprising make-up week and the official in-semester week break.

Marks allocation: Worth 20% of the total mark for this unit i.e. 20 marks. Marks below are expressed in percentage terms within these 20 marks. Marks will be deducted if you supply information that is redundant or duplicated. Equally, marks will be deducted if you do not submit what is required. Submission instructions: One softcopy (per group) Word document is to be submitted to your tutor by the beginning of your groups tutorial. The assignment should contain all deliverables from weeks 3, 5, and 7. In weeks 3 and 5, you show your tutor the work done to date (hard or soft copy) and will receive formative feedback about your groups progress, thereby allowing you the opportunity to correct mistakes or omissions before the submission deadline. For the week 7 (final, assessable) submission, the softcopy must contain all previous weeks deliverables otherwise you will lose marks. Your tutor will return the final marked assignment to you within two weeks. Submit all work to your Tutor via BlackBoard.

You have been selected to work with a team of consultants with a company that intends to create a website for its customers so that they can use their facilities electronically. Task: Your groups main task is to prepare a requirements specification. McWhirter, like many firms, has a standard template which you must use for preparing this specification (template supplied separately). The requirements specification is to be submitted to your boss for feedback in components and contains the following sections: Deliverable Introduction Glossary Scope Business process workflows for new system Use case diagram for new system Four elaborated use cases Four web pages including home page Navigation map Elementary data dictionary (at least 20 items) Composite data dictionary definitions of 4 web pages above Week 3 3 3 5 5 5 7 7 7 7 % of assignment mark 5 5 10 5 15 20 10 10 10 10

Your report will be marked against a number of criteria. In order of importance they are: 1. The report is to be prepared in order for your boss to understand your recommendations and your groups decisions. It needs to be concise yet clear. 2. Your report should show good knowledge and understanding of the concepts being used and how to apply these to this task. 3. The assignment should be presented as a standard business report and therefore normal standards of business presentation apply.
