Butterworth continues by saying suggestions were made to hide mans divinity at the bottom of the ocean, perhaps at the top of the highest mountain or deep in the earth. No, it was decided man would find it in all of those places. Brahman eventually decided that mans divinity would be hidden inside of him for, he will never think to look for it there. from the River Jordan that I brought home with me from my visit there. Our Unity co-founder, Charles Fillmore, describes baptism as a spiritual cleansing of the mind, a first step in the realization of Truth. As we take that first symbolic step, who knows where the journey will lead us? But the Chinese proverb states that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I pray you take that first step with us on a journey within. Blessings for a happy, prosperous and healthy 2012,

ing, exploring, searching for something that is already in himself. Two thousand years ago, a man named Jesus found it and shared its secret; but in the movement that sprang up in His name, the Divinity in Man has been the best kept secret of the ages. (Butterworth) Our theme for 2012 is Discover the Power Within. Using Butterworths book as a springboard, we will look at the gospel of Jesus in a new context, with repeated emphasis on the idea of Christ in you. That is Butterworths description of his work. In our Sunday medita-

tion times weve taken a conscious journey within ourselves to connect with our Christ. We want to know it, feel it, know its wisdom and establish a relationship with it. Even as I write it I am really referring to us because there is only oneness, no separation. So, in essence, we are journeying to know ourselves at a deeper level. Thats what our year will be about and we will use many different writings to help us explore the topic. On Sunday January 8th, I will be offering our annual Spiritual Baptism ceremony using water

The Presidents Report ... with Wilda Thomas No more New Years resolutions, only happy goals

4 Unity of London - Inner Spark - January/February 2012

Prosperity Report
appy New Year! Here we are in 2012! We are looking forward in childlike anticipation to all the good that is in store for this fabulous church family this year. All kinds of classes and fun get-togethers are already planned with the intention of lifting us all up spiritually. These include a new 4T program; a February Blues Party complete with live band and silent auction; a spiritual retreat, and the Coffee House, just to name a few. How great it is to have all these volunteers lovingly organizing all these events just so we can come together in the spirit of Unity ... the spirit of Love. You may have noticed the Lets Get to Thrive slide

the Board of Directors, I want you to know how dedicated we all are to growing this church and that takes lots of support from all members time, talent and treasure. The only way to know whats needed is to be informed and thats why this slide came to be. Look how close we are to THRIVING! Remember, we live in true abundance and bless countless others with our generosity. Dont forget the Fundscrip Program. How easy can it be? I buy a gift card for myself to buy gasoline, groceries, clothes, or Outflows $11,715.77 $12,074.38 $137,688.14 whatever I like, and Unity of London gets a bonus. That just makes sense, doesnt it? Easy to order too! Lets join together and raise this communitys awareness and passion to make Unity of London THRIVE!!! With much gratitude for your involvement in one or all of these programs we say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Namaste

n the past, the New Year has not been my favourite time. I find January a bit of a letdown after the busyness of the holidays; my business sometimes slows down and there are at least three full months of winter before we see those crocuses peak their pretty heads out of the snow. And then, of course, there is that issue of New Years resolutions. Whether you want to lose or maintain your weight, get fit, quit smoking or reduce your credit card debt, as often as not, by the end of January the commitments have gone by the wayside and you are feeling badly because you didnt have the stickto-itiveness to keep your resolutions. For me there are no more New Years resolutions. There are only happy goals like two international trips in 2012, taking more Spanish classes, travelling

Wilda Thomas Board President

with my sisters, and at least six pedicures a year. Those are goals that I am delighted to achieve. So, you may ask, what about all those resolutions that I should do like losing weight, going to bed earlier, and working out. Well, I am working with those in my success journal. A success journal is where you record that which you consider a success in your life. For example, my goal is to work out three times

a week and most weeks I have challenges with that. So, any time that I work out is a success for me. In fact, every time that I go for a walk or do anything physical is a success and is worth noting. Over the last two years, I have worked out 182 times which is huge for me. I dont beat myself up if I only work out once a week. Instead, I focus on my accomplishment I am still working out, I am still paying for my membership and next week is another opportunity for me to recommit to my goal. Yippee! There have been many successes for Unity of London during 2011, so here are some, in no particular order: Rev. Lori Hisson has given more than 40 inspirational talks to uplift and ground us in who we are as divine beings; Jake Levesque, our music director, organized and presented at least three musical numbers each week, with the help of the choir, Emilio Zarris and other guest singers. He also produced 10 Coffee Houses and a Cabaret this year with the assistance of many volunteers; Courtnay Kingsbury is expecting her second

childif that isnt a success, I dont know what is! Congratulations! Bluestone Properties, our landlord, chose to donate $500 a month to Unity of London; The Mexico Condo Lottery was sold out for the second year in a row; Unity of London established a New Home Fund with more than $2,000 in it; Our Ministerial student, Ros Mariconda of Kingsville, became Rev. Ros and we celebrated in her success; Nine new congregants committed to be members of Unity of London; Our finances are in the black; The vast majority of our congregants volunteered their time and talents in many different ministries to make Unity of London run smoothly and efficiently. Please acknowledge your success as a volunteer and pat yourself on the back. Also, take the opportunity to tell someone else that they are difference makers. As we move through 2012, I request that we acknowledge our own successes at each and every opportunity. For me that is a resolution worth keeping. Happy New Year and

How to release your imprisoned splendor

Truth is within ourselves; it takes no rise From outward things, whateer you may believe. There is an inmost center in us all, Where truth abides in fulness; and around, Wall upon wall, the gross flesh hems it in, This perfect, clear perception - which is truth. A baffling and perverting carnal mesh Binds it, and makes all error; and to know Rather consists in opening out a way Whence the imprisoned splendor may escape, Than in effecting entry for a light Supposed to be without. - Robert Browning fun while sharing your spiritual gift of music! Unity of London - Inner Spark - November/December 2011

January and February Wednesday Program Unity class for credit set for January 4T Prosperity Program starts Feb. 1
Metaphysics I - Part 1 - An Overview of the Fundamental Teachings of Unity This class will run for four consecutive Wednesdays, January 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will be taught by Pat Moauro, LUT, a Licensed Unity Teacher. The required text is Metaphysics I, available from the Unity of London bookstore. This class is one of four classes in Session A - the Recommended First Session in Unity Institutes Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) program. Anyone who wishes to be Licensed as a Unity Teacher, or eventually study to become a Unity minister, must complete a series of personal spiritual development and leadership development classes in the SEE program.

Unity of London gets a new Licensed Unity Teacher

Unity of London has a new Lincesed Unity Teacher (LUT). Just before this issue of the Inner Spark went to the printer, Pat Moauro received official word that he had been approved as an LUT. On November 10, he graduated from the final Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) classes at Unity Village. The following week, he attended a skills demonstration seminar and testing to qualify as a Licensed teacher. Although officially now a Licensed Unity Teacher, his LUT certificate had not arrived when this newsletter went to the printer. Rev. Lori Hisson, minister of Unity of London, said she will present the certificate to Pat when it arrives. Pat was the one who introduced me to Unity of London 16 years ago, Rev. Lori said. Since then I have studied with him and worked with him on the Unity board. Its been my pleasure to have encouraged his every step on the path to this great accomplishment. Becoming a Licensed Unity Teacher means we now have a teacher that can offer more Unity Institute credit classes to our congregation. Pat will bless many people in his new role and we are blessed by the dedication, time and finances that he gave to make it happen. I am so very proud of you Pat. You are a wonderful representative of the Unity movement. Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first it is ridiculed; in the second it is opposed; in the third it is regarded as self-evident. - Arthur Schopenhauer All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

New and Revised!

Beginning Wednesday February 1st 2012 - 6-8 p.m. for 12 weeks Our current beliefs about prosperity and self-worth have developed over our lifetime. If you want to experience the abundance the Universe has for you, new beliefs have to be created to replace the old ones. This course will help you look at what you do believe and ways to change those beliefs. This famous Unity prosperity program that helps people change their consciousness around prosperity is returning to Unity of London. The text has been updated and the audio CDs have been re-recorded. A new workbook completes the package. If youve taken the course before youll enjoy the revisions and new sound. Read what some of our participants from last spring have written about the program: I was able to change my fear and stress to peace and tranquility. I am now more grateful. I was given the opportunity to meet and get to know some truly incredible people. I now know the power of prayer. It has made me calmer and more positive. A shift in how I see things. We are the drivers of our own cars. I am careful about how and what I think. Forgiveness work through prayer renewed my belief in true abundance. Join us for 12 weeks of change. Are you willing to do the spiritual work that will transform your life? For more information please attend one of two information sessions on Sundays, January 15 th or January 22 nd at 12 p.m. You will see a video that explains the commitment this program requires for you to participate.

Unity: a positive, practical, progressive way of life

Unity is a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus and the power of prayer. Unity honours the universal truths in all religions and respects each individuals right to choose a spiritual path. GOD God is Spirit, the loving source of all that is. God is the one power, all good, everywhere present, all wisdom. God is divine energy, continually creating, expressing, and sustaining all creation, In God, we live and move and have our being. In Unity, some other ways we speak of God are Life, Light, Love, Substance, Principle, Law, and Universal Mind. Jesus We believe that Jesus expressed his divine potential and sought to show humankind how to express ours as well. We see Jesus as a master teacher of universal truths and as our Way-Shower. In Unity, we use the term Christ to mean the divinity in humankind. Jesus is the great example of the Christ in expression. The Nature of Humankind We are each individual, eternal expressions of God. Our essential nature is divine and therefore inherently good. Our purpose is to express our divine potential as realized and demonstrated by Jesus and other master teachers. The more we awaken to our divine nature, the more fully God expresses in and through our lives. The Bible Unity cofounders, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, studied the Bible as history and allegory, and interpreted it as a metaphysical representation of humankinds evolutionary journey toward spiritual awakening. In addition, Unity recognizes that the Bible is a complex collection of writings compiled over many centuries. We honour the writings as reflecting the understanding and inspiration of the writers at the time they were written. The Bible continues to be a valuable spiritual resource for us. Our Teachings Unity teaches that each person is a unique expression

of God created with sacred worth. Living from that awareness transforms our lives and the world. Unity emphasizes the creative power of thought in our life experience. We refer to this as the Law of Mind Action. When we take personal responsibility to choose life-affirming thoughts, words and actions, we experience a more fulfilling and abundant life. Unity emphasizes the importance of applying spiritual principles in our daily lives. Unity teachings continue to evolve as we identify, embrace, and apply spiritual insights and the spiritual implications of new discoveries. Prayer and Meditation Affirmative prayer is the highest form of creative thought. It includes the release of counterproductive, negative thoughts, as well as holding in mind statements of spiritual truth.Through meditation, we experience the presence of God. Prayer and meditation heighten our awareness and thereby transform our lives.

Spiritual Action In Unity, we feel a sacred responsibility, individually and collectively, to make a positive difference through personal example and active service in our churches, our communities, and our world. Honouring Diversity Within the Unity Movement We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. Therefore, we recognize the importance of serving all people within the Unity family in spiritually and emotionally caring ways. We strive for our ministries, publications, and programs to reach out to all who seek Unity support and spiritual growth. It is imperative that our ministries and outreaches be free of discrimination on the basis of race, colour, gender, age, creed, religion, national origin, ethnicity, physical disability, or sexual orientation.
