2 System Overview
Airspan provides a Web-based user interface tool for MicroMAX Base Station management (WBM). This Web-based tool is used for viewing various MicroMAX Base Station Radio units (hereafter referred to as units) configuration settings, as well as for performing advanced configuration settings such as software upgrade. The Web-based management tool can be accessed remotely using any standard Web browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer), from anywhere in the world, as long as the MicroMAX Base Station is powered-on and connected to the Internet, provided WEB access to MicroMAX is allowed (through different firewalls). Thus, no installation of any additional Airspan software is required.

Figure1Architecture The Web-based management tool is based on a client-server architecture, whereby the MicroMAX Base Station contains embedded Web server software (HTTP server) on its flash memory. Any Web browser can access this server by using the server's IP address, which is the IP address of the MicroMAX BSR.
The Web browser communicates with MicroMAX Base Station embedded Web server using the TCP/IP protocol. The Web browser sends HTTP requests to the server, which in turn responds by sending HTML pages, thereby providing the user interface on the client Web browser.

2.1 MicroMAX Light

The MicroMAX "light" version is identical to MicroMAX other than it only supports up to 30 SS units and is (presently) not available in all frequency bands. MicroMAX Light can be upgraded at anytime to the regular MicroMAX. See Upgrading from MicroMAX Light.

2.2 Main Advantages

Airspan's Web-based management provides the following configuration options: End-user acceptance and familiarity -- Web-based management provides an easy-to-use management method Cross platform -- Web browsers support most operating systems (e.g. Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mac) Operators can configure and monitor MicroMAX via either: SNMP using Netspan - for complete configuration WEB using a standard WEB browser Setting or monitoring Base Station Radio parameters such as: BS ID, Channel, IP address and passwords for SNMP management Entries of LAN tables of MicroMAX

MicroMAX WEB management includes the following:

Management VLAN to isolate the management IP address, creating an out-of-band network for management purposes. By isolating the management IP address from normal traffic, access from unauthorized users and malicious attacks from the general user population can be eliminated. VLAN Tagging/Untagging enables the reception and transmission of 802.1Q VLANtagged frames on the interface DFS Dynamic Frequency Selection enables spectrum-sharing mechanism allowing wireless access equipment to coexist with other systems in the 5 GHz license-exempt band. This is a regulation requirement. SA Spectrum Analyzer enables a way to scan and find a channel with minimal noise. CCC Clearest Channel Choice In order for the BSR to cope with interferences in unlicensed band the BSR searches the spectrum and automatically selects the clearest channel. WFQ Weighted Fair Queuing provides consistent response time to heavy and light network users alike without adding excessive bandwidth. TDD and FDD Synchronization Synchronization to mitigate the TX/RX mutual between radios. Reuse Groups Burst profile adaptation, as implemented at the CPE, is based on CINR measurement. Q-in-Q solves the limitation of maximum 4096 VLANs. Dynamic Contention Slots Adjustment optimizes the number of contention slots vs. needs of the network. Filter Unknown Broadcast Packets a filtering mechanism (to discard) for unknown Broadcast packets. Uplink Sub-Channelization BS decides, based on uplink SNR measurements whether to schedule full bandwidth or sub-channelized grants for the CPE.

MicroMAX Web-based Management User Guide DHCP option 82 The BS inserts an identifier (BSID) in all DHCP requests from enduser. This allows the ISP to authenticate and control the rights for assigning IP addresses to the end-user. ARQ - an application layer error correction technique that identifies errors in frames of transmitted data and automatically requests retransmission of the erred frames. Used for Data Service Flows. Setting Service Flows: For multiple SS units Including QoS settings FTP TFTP

20 GPS Time Synchronization

The following section explains how to set GPS synchronization via the BSDU WBM. The Web-based management tool enables GPS time synchronization between BSDUs. When the BSRs are configured to stop operating, when not receiving 1PPS, as in the case of overlapping cells, it is highly recommended to configure the BSDU to make a recovery attempt when PPS is lost. Note: ALL BSRs will cease to function until GPS signal is restored, unless Sync Mode is set to "No Synchronization" or "Ignore sync lost" is activated. To access Time Synchronization 1. Select Time Sync from the Advanced menu, to initiate time synchronization (as shown below).

MicroMAX Web-based Management User Guide The Time Sync page fields are described in the table below:

Table23TimeSync
Parameter Current sync status Description Displays current synchronization status, On/Off Note: Read-only display unless Sync Mode is set to "No Synchronization" or "Ignore sync lost" is activated. Note: When 1PPS was lost and the BSDU is generating the 1PPS signal itself (for 15 minutes or without time limit: On generated locally: 1 PPS not received from GPS! will be displayed Current GPS communication status displays the current status of communication with the GPS antenna, On/Off Note: When On is selected: Number of detected satellites and Detected satellites' SNR values (percents) are displayed, as shown below. Select from possible values: Generate 1PPS locally for 15 minutes, then stop - the BSDU will continue to generate the 1PPS signal for 15 minutes and then will stop. (The BSDU is capable of producing the 1PPS signal with very low deviation during this period). Generate 1PPS locally without time limit - the BSDU will continue to produce the 1PPS signal instead of the GPS without a time limit. In this case the deviation from the read 1PPS will grow as time passes. This field determines what to do in case the 1PPS signal stops coming from the GPS. Sync Mode Select synchronization mode, either: 1 2 3 4 No Synchronization Local Oscillator when using 1 BSDU Rear-Panel GPS Front-Panel GPS Note: #2 Local Oscillator is for Lab use only. When selected a warning message appears, as shown below (outside of table). Note: A GPS is required for settings 3 & 4. Number of detected satellites Detected satellites' SNR values (percents) Displays the number of detected satellites.

If 1PPS signal from GPS is lost then

Displays the detected satellites SNR values.

20.1 GPS Synchronization Protection

In the event the BSDU will fail to receive a 1PPS signal from the GPS the BSDU will continuously attempt to retrieve the desirable 1PPS signal. There are three (3) methods to prevent with this scenario. There are three (3) operational modes in the BSR: Disabled (default) whether the BSR utilizes a 1PPS signal (external synchronization) or not. Enabled + ignore sync loss (default when enabled from web) whether the BSR will use the 1PPS signal from the BSDU but in the event a 1PPS is not present the BSR will ignore it and keep operating normally. Enabled + stop transmitting on sync loss whether the BSR will stop transmitting whenever a 1PPS signal is not present.
