Hypothesis

Safety Concerns Procedure

What you expect the results to be. It should relate directly related to the problem. List any safety issues/concerns Must be in numbered steps. Must be exact and replicable

2 Must be thoughtful and applicable to the lab NOT in paragraph form. Must be detailed enough for others to follow Procedure must be written for all parts of the stream studyphysical and biological data (Velocity, pH, etc.) Include the stream data table Create new data tables for the following: velocity, temperature, pH, and critters Include 9 pictures of organisms (four microscopic and five main macroscopic invertebrates) that you will research Include stream depth profile with the following labels: Title: Depth Profile of Our Section of Naylors Run X-axis: cm out Y-axis: depth in cm

RRestate the problem AAnswer the question in terms of the observed values CCite data to support, include experimental and control setup EErrors and extension

RChange the wording of the problem ALook at both physical and biological data CCite specific data that proves or disproves your hypothesis EWhat errors were made in the design of the experiment or the methods used? How could we change the experimental design to make the lab more quantitative?

Total= Analysis Questions

100 points

1. What are some physical factors that would be found in a healthy stream? 2. What organisms would be indicators of stream health and why? What organisms did you finddo they support a healthy stream? Explain 3. Research the following, using book resources provided in class: Four microscopic organisms: organism name, type, description, niche, habitat found. Five main macroscopic invertebrate organisms: organism name, type, description, niche, habitat found.

4. Even though an organism might be tolerant of pollution, that does not necessarily mean that they are only found in polluted waters. How could the numbers of pollution tolerant organisms show a stream to be healthy? 5. Of the data collected, which set provided the most quantitative and definitive answer to your hypothesis? Explain why you think this is so by comparing the data sets in terms of: sample size, accuracy of test materials, collecting methods, etc.
