Olfactiano VII, 2004 The Olfactiano works like a mix of a piano and an organ.

. The scent composer ustable airpower to create the scent sonata. The keys of the scent piano are subdivided in three layers like the three notes in a perfume; base, middle and top notes. The Olfactiano has 27 keys what gives the posibility to create more than 4374 di fferent combinations depending of the scent intensity. The fragrances are replac eable by other scents depending of the concert. It is necessary to change the sc ent intensity depending of the place, the ventilation in the room, the humidity and how many people participate to the scent concert. Olfactiano VII is the seve nth olfaction made by the artist, but the first one that can play for an audienc e. The six earlier version are made for the artist personal use to compose the c oncerts and to do experiments with the mixing of fragrances to find out their be havior depending of certain situations.The artist choose especially for 27 scent s. Actually it are always 26 scents that are used and 1 scent divider that is le ft open to fill the room with fresh air. The idea of using 26 scents is based on his research about creating a scent alphabet. So when reading a book, you just might do this with your eyes closed and focus on the fragrances and the way they mix. You sniff the sentences and your imagination does the rest. It has a lot o f benefits also to the world of the non seeing. His research about creating a sc ent alphabet is going on since 1996. In 1997 he created his first Olfactiano. The way people react on a scent concert depends of a lot of parameters. Blind pe ople are most of the time most excited about it and can mostly easily recognize the scents. The seeing people can react sometimes strange. It always depends of the kind of scent concert the artist is given. The reaction of the audience is m ost of all based on their own memory that is connected to a specific scent. For example some people might not recognize the smell of leather and can react scary on this fragrance, especially when this fragrance smells to the leather of a pi g. The smell of the leather of a cow is less scary for them. Does it say somethi ng about the persons or how memory works, or how we are related to things in gen erally. And their are more reactions, to many to mention. And what with differe nt cultures, the reaction on certain fragrances is also in a way fated by the or igin of the person self. So all concerts are surprising. As a participant of a s cent concert you will be experience how your lower senses are given meaning. To sniff around in the dark and listen, -read 'smell', makes you think that there a re still a lot of things to discover with your own body. The artist sees the sce nt concerts also as creating a perfume through time as the room fills with the s cents at a certain moment there will stay a general scent in the room and that's the best sign to stop the concert. So most of the time the concerts take betwee n 7 and 15 minutes. This might seems to be very short, but in these minutes the audience is overwhelmed with the best quality of fragrances and are surprised ho w the can smell each scent separate until a certain level is reached. Most of th e time this level starts after 5 minutes, but depending of the humidity, tempera ture, size, volume and form or the room the concert can go on longer. To prepare his concerts, the artist has written a computer program. Before starting the co ncerts he programs certain parameters concerning the measures of the room, temp erature and humidity. So the concert is well prepared and he has just to watch t he scent scores on his monitor. At the moment the artist is since three years wo rking an an eight version which will have more possibilities and will provide a selection over 100 different scents!
