Motor Vehicles – Tamil Nadu Department Vehicles Control Rules, 1976 – Repairs to
Government Departmental Vehicles – Enhancement of ceiling towards expenditure on repairs
and replacement of Spare parts – Recommendation of Motor Vehicles Maintenance Department

ORDER:
Under Rule 15(2) of the Tamil Nadu Departmental Vehicles Control Rules 1976, the
officer incharge of the Government Vehicle can incur expenditure to carryout repairs and
replacement of spare parts of Government Vehicle upto the certain limit pres limit prescribed
from time to time. Such a ceiling limit on expenditure on repairs and replacement for light
vehicles was last fixed in G.O.Ms.No.1311, Home dated 13.7.1989. Meanwhile, there was
further increase in the overall cost of spares, labour, etc. The Director, Motor Vehicles
Maintenance Department was therefore, requested to make his recommendation for revision of
ceiling on repairs. The Director Motor Vehicles Maintenance Department has recommended
revision of ceiling on repairs and incurring expenditure on minor repairs by vehicle owning
officer without referring to the Motor Vehicles Maintenance Department at the time of
emergencies. The Transport Commissioner has also agreed to the proposal.
2. The proposal of the Director, Motor Vehicles Maintenance Department has been
examined carefully. The Goverment have decided to accept the same.
2. Accordingly, the Government direct that, the ceiling limit on expenditure on repairs
and replacement for light vehicles (Petrol), Light Vehicle (Diesel) and Heavy vehicle
(Diesel) be fixed as indicated below:-

3. The Government also direct that the ceiling limit on expenditure for petty and
minor repairs of the vehicle, by vehicle owning office without referring to the Automobile
workshops at the time of emergencies shall be as indicated below:
4. The Government also direct that in respect of petty and miner repairs, the orders
issued by transport Department in G.O.Ms.No.6, Transport, dated 4.1.2000 shall continue to
prevail.
5. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vice its
U.O.No.47808/Home-I/04 dated 29.7.2004.
