Crimes reported to police in Neston recently include:
l A D Tyres, Neston An attempt made to break in through a skylight was thwarted
because window bars had been installed.
l Church Lane, Neston A Maglite torch and a padlock were stolen.
l Marshlands Road, Neston A distraction burglary occurred when a man allegedly
selling door to door asked to use the toilet. The man was stopped a short time later
and arrested.
l Brook Street, Neston A bike which had been left secured to bus stop for three
days was damaged.
l The Parade, Parkgate A handbag was stolen from a VW Polo.
l Moorfeld Drive, Neston A brick was thrown through the windscreen of a Jeep.
l Denhall Lane The door locks were damaged to a Citroen C1.
Open air Shakespeare sequel
AN original sequel to A Midsummer Nights Dream will be performed on the Wirral
this summer. After The Dream written and directed by Bev Clark, is based on
Shakespeares comedy where Demetrius was left under the fairies magic spell but this
production explores what happens 20 years later when the magic is reversed and
the spell is broken. Along with performances at the Floral Pavilion, Birkenhead Park,
Royden Park and Melrose Hall, the show is at Ness Gardens on Thursday 21st and

Busy year for town conservation group
IT has been an eventful year for Neston Civic Society with the town picking up prizes in
the Cheshire Community Pride Awards.
Society chairman Rob Ward explained that, after a two-year break during the building
of the new Market Square and supermarket, they again entered Neston & Little Neston
in the awards.
He said: We did not win
this time, as we did in
2008, but we came third,
and we received a little
Gem Award for Neston
Cross.

The plants around the
Bushell Fountain at The Cross are looked after by Celia Garvey and a small team
including Janet Griffths. They recently braved the wind and rain to replace plants in
front of Neston Town Hall.
Celia and Janet have been leading members of the Society for many years. At the
recent AGM, Celia stood down as chairman, but remains Social Secretary, and Janet
Griffths became Treasurer, having
been Secretary for many years. Elaine
Griffths had been Treasurer for two
years, and was thanked at the AGM
for her valuable help as Treasurer.
She very effciently sorted out Gift
Aid, which has greatly benefted the
Society.
A new committee member is local
resident and architect Stephen
Quicke. Lindsey Hinks was elected as
secretary.
The Society had a stand at Neston
Village Fair in July, and took groups
of visitors around the Town Trail
during the two Heritage weekends in
September.
In 2008 the Society led the campaign
to set up Neston Town Council, and
three of the committee are now Neston
Town Councillors as individuals.

Q We have decided to install a new en suite and would

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is

Manor Gatehouse Club
DAVID Cook will talk about Humour in Education at the Gladstone Hall, Burton at

The club has been in existence for 30 years and is for retired people. It runs a wide
range of activities such as rambling, painting, gardening, literature, history, music and
travel. There are around 250 members.
Neston Riverside WI
THE ladies enjoyed a talk on the Vatican, given by
Mark Philpots. Not only did he give a brief history
of the Vatican City State and the Holy See but
also conducted a guided photographic tour of the
Vatican buildings and his meetings with Vatican
dignitaries. Mark showed photographs from the
1970s as well as modern day which showed the
way in which tourism and traffc has changed on
the city over the last 40 years. Everyone who
attended certainly felt they had had A Peep Behind
the Scenes at the Vatican.
Aprils meeting will see Peter Nicholson telling
members about Gordale Garden Centre .
Ness and Little Neston WI
THE speaker at the February meeting was Jan Bradshaw who gave a talk on life in
medieval times. Jan is a member of the Tatton Park activities team and she entertained
with anecdotes of introducing medieval Britain to year 7 students.
At the March meeting Stuart Wood spoke on the topic Memories of a River Pilot.
Meetings are held in St Michaels Church, Marshlands Road, Little Neston at 7.30pm
on the frst Tuesday of each month. New members are always welcome. Call 336 4386

Neston Rotary Club
NESToN Rotary is in its 48th year and is a keen supporter of lLocal, national and
international charities. You probably know of the Father Christmas and Sleigh
collections in Neston thats them!
They actively support local schools and organisations. For example, the group
supplied books to Neston Primary school to replace those damaged by the theft of the
bell and the lead from the roof and one of the members supplied the new bell.
On Friday 1st June they are holding a Diamond Jubilee choir concert at the Neston
parish church with all proceeds going to Northern Lights, the Neston charity that sends
sick children to Lapland to see Santa.
They also will be at the Willaston and Neston summer fairs.
The group meet every Tuesday 6.30pm at the Hinderton Arms, Neston starting with an

With over half of us saying wed enjoy our
summer holiday more if we were happier with

Starting on 11th April, Jayne Williams,
Slimming World Consultant in Neston, is
holding a six week Slimmer Summerthon after
a survey found that more than half of us spoil
our summer holidays before weve even packed
our bikinis because were self-conscious and
worried about wearing a swimming costume
in public or getting into the pool in front of
others.
Statistics show that over half of us will try to
lose weight for the big summer holiday this
year but somehow the motivation fags and
we end up disappointedly packing the same
supersize shorts as last last year. Slimmers who
join the campaign are being encouraged to get
sponsored to lose weight and, for the duration
of the six weeks, with all funds going to three
local charities; Claire house, Northern Lights
Childrens Charity and RSPCA Wirral.
Jayne is inviting slimmers to bring friends and
family along and get together to kick start their
weight loss in time for sunnier weather. Were

we know that commitment and motivation are

A CRIMINAL who admitted trying to sell a stolen war
memorial plaque from a Willaston church has been jailed
for nine weeks.
The 41 year-old from Little Neston admitted handling
stolen goods when he appeared before Magistrates in
Chester.
The man was arrested by offcers from Cheshire Police
in August after a copper panel inscribed with names
of fallen war heroes was stolen from Christ Church, in
Willaston, last July.
Subsequent investigation by police
revealed that the man had made
attempts to sell the memorial at a
scrap metal merchants in Ellesmere
Port.
The scrap merchants became
suspicious and refused to trade with
him when it became apparent that
what he was trying to sell was in fact
a stolen memorial plaque dedicated to
those who had given their lives in two
world wars.
Police were contacted and the man
was traced to his home in Little
Neston, just three miles from the
scene of the crime. He was charged
with handling stolen goods.
Sadly, the war memorial has never
been recovered and will cost 7,000 to

PC Mike Lockett of the Neston Neighbourhood Policing Team said: This theft quite
rightly caused outrage in the village. People were shocked that someone could steal
something that was there to commemorate those who lost their lives in war.

This young all white male cat came to us as a stray. Can you offer him his ideal
home? He is very friendly and loves attention. An experienced cat owner is
needed as he sometimes gets overexcited and will give you a little nip but
usually it is only in play. Because of this we would not consider homing him with
a family with young children
Bex is about two years old he is neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped.

Stanley is three years old and very friendly. Unfortunately Stanley has the FIV
virus so must be kept as an indoor cat. He will make a very loyal and loving
companion. He follows his fosterer around everywhere and when she sits down
Stanley thinks it is especially so he can sit on her lap. Stanley is the perfect
companion, he is happiest on your knee, or on the newspaper you are trying to
read.

Cats with FIV make ideal indoor companion animals.

Blue is this handsome boy is a bit on the nervous side but then who wouldn't
be after finding himself shut out of his home in the coldest of weather, when
his owner moved out and left him behind.

year and are now 10 months old, Tabby and white from
the same litter. They have come back into care as their

are used to living with other cats and also a dog but not
