PERSONALIZED DOORBELL

SPRING 2011

I.

Introduction 1. The final project, Personalized Doorbell, was chosen because it utilizes fingerprint scanning, microcontrollers, and audio components. We are excited to do this project that utilizes equipment that we are interested to use as part of our design. This will also allow households to know who is visiting there house before coming to peep hole. This product can be useful and also entertaining. Furthermore, this idea can be incorporated into a smart house or house of the future. 2. Objectives Easily store new users in database Differentiate and recognize users in system Play default tone/message for unknown users Assign and play different tones for users Ability to play message for a stored user 3. Benefits Avoid surprises Add cool factor to smart house Design 1. Block Diagram

2. Block Descriptions Fingerprint Scanner Fingerprint Scanner will be either a capacitive or optical scanner most likely in the form of USB due to cost efficiency. Microcontroller Will act as an interface to interpret the signal from the scanner and allow us to keep a database fingerprints. Amplifier The amplifier will increase the voltage/output so that the chime box and message box will receive a voltage large enough to drive the devices. Chime Box Chime box will play correlated tone for assigned fingerprint Message Box Message Box will play correlated message for assigned fingerprint

3. Performance Requirements The fingerprint scanner system will be able to decipher between 5 different users. And the doorbell should be around 50 decibels and able to play 5 different tones. Message box will have memory capability and contain information specific to each user.

III.

Verification 1. Testing Procedures Testing using LEDs to ensure that the correct signals are being captured for the fingerprint scanner. Test the microcontroller through logic analysis to ensure that it is properly programmed. Test the chime box and the message box by sending set signals to the devices to ensure that correct tones and messages will play at predetermined values. Construct and test each block individually and then combine each device to create the Personalized Doorbell system

2. Tolerance Analysis The logic low signal should be between 0 and 1.5 volts. The logic high signal should be between 3.5 and 5 volts. The amplifier should have no more than 10% distortion to ensure that the correct message/ tone is selected for play. IV. Cost and Schedule 1.
