2 Slipper Socks on 1 needle!

Designed by Alice Clary Making 2 socks at once is a passion of mine. I've tried different ways of working these and found this combination is best. This is a great way to work socks for people who don't like to count rows but want the socks to end up the same size! Take care to use the correct yarn for each foot, and use a ball winder for Lorna's that allows you to pull yarn from the middle & outside. Sizes: (Large) ankles Materials: 36 or longer circular needle, size 10 (adjust to fit gage); Lornas Laces Shepherd Bulky (1 skein) or 2 strands of worsted weight yarn. Gauge: 14 sts = 4 inches Cast on the heel side of both socks first: (all stitches will be cast on the same needle) c/o 14 (16) stitches for 1st sock, c/o 14 (16) sts for 2nd sock, place marker. Now for the instep side of both socks: c/o 14 (16) sts with 2nd socks yarn; c/o 14 (16) sts with 1st socks yarn (you will need to c/o the first few sts tightly). Pull the marker to make a loop between the 2nd socks instep & heel. You will be working the heel/back of the sock first. Cuff: Work in K2, P2 rib for 1 or 2: heel side first - make a loop with the right needle, put all the heel sts onto the left needle, K2, P2, rib (medium will end with K2), dont forget to switch the yarn; make a loop with the right needle, put all the instep sts onto the left needle: medium P2, K2 rib (large: K2, P2 rib). Place a marker on the first socks cast on end, to distinguish the first sock. Heels: Over both heels: Row 1: Work heel over 14(16) stitches -on right side, Slip 1, Knit 1 across. Row 2: On wrong side, Slip 1, P13 (15). Work for a total of 14 rows over both socks. Repeat row 1 for the first sock, then work the heel turn. Turn the heels: Each sock is worked separately Row 1: Purl 9(10), P2tog, P1, turn. (There will be stitches left on the needle before turning). Row 2: Slip one, Knit 5, K2tog, K1, turn. Row 3: Slip 1, P6, P2tog, P1, turn. Row 4: Slip 1, K7, K2tog, K1. For the large size work Rows 5&6. Row 5: Slip 1, P8, P2tog, turn. Row 6: Slip 1, K8, K2tog. Pick up 7 stitches along side of heel flap. On the second sock you will now work the 15th row of the heel: Slip 1, Knit 1 across. Work the second heel turn as above. Knit across 14(16) instep stitches for both socks. Pick up 7 stitches along the right side of the heel flap and knit across the heel of the first sock, repeat for the 2nd sock. Knit across the instep stitches of both socks.

Gusset Decreases: Rnd 1: Knit to three stitches before the end, K2tog, K1. Knit across the instep. Rnd 2: K1, SSK, knit to the end. Knit across the instep. Repeat these two rounds until you are back to the original number of stitches (28/32). Work even until foot measures desired length, beginning of heel turn to the base of the big toe. Toe Decreases: Rnd 1: K1, SSK, knit to three stitches before the end, K2tog, K1. Repeat for the instep. Rnd 2: Knit on both heel & instep, without decreasing. Repeat these two rounds until you have half your original number of stitches (14/ 16). Kitchener remaining stitches closed. Weave in your ends. Enjoy! Copyright 2010 Glades Arts
