Planning Sheet

Name: _________________________________ Select 2 quotes to use in the paragraph. Introduce each quote by giving the context (what is happening at this point in the story/novel/poem?). Comment on each quote saying how the authors language use supports your viewpoint. Include a transition between section of the body paragraph. End the paragraph with a concluding or clincher sentence that sums up the main idea of your paragraph. Plan for Body Paragraph 1 Topic sentence: (This clearly tells the reader the content or topic of the paragraph and connects the content back to the thesis) Introduce Quote 1 (Give the context of the quote. To do this you must explain - clearly but briefly - what is happening at this point in the novel). Quote 1 (Include the citation the page #) Comment on Quote 1 (Make sure that you talk about the specific language used, you might want to underline the most powerful or interesting words in the quote and them talk about how the language contributes. The comment MUST connect back to the argument of your paper - in other words make sure your comment reflects your topic sentence/thesis).
