INSTALLATION OF DNS
IN DOMAIN ENVIRONMENT WITH IIS
Objective: To Install DNS in Domain Environment with IIS

By Installing DNS in Domain environment with IIS, it enables us to host the WebPages.

Pre Requisites : a. Prepare a Fresh Workgroup Win2k8 PC b. Assign an IP as following IP Address : 10.0.0.1 Subnet Mask : 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway : -----------Preferred DNS Alternate DNS : : 10.0.0.1 -------------

* The preferred DNS should be the Server IP c. Check the NIC card weather it is in Bridged or NAT; enable it as bridged connections and Check mark on Replicate

Stage I Creating Domain Environment: After Creating Active Directory or Domain Controller, then only we will call it as a Domain Environment.

Go to work group Fresh Win2k8 PC Click Start Menu and Select RUN Open RUN command and type dcpromo The Active Directory/Domain Controller Installation Wizard will starts as soon as possible After some time it Shows a Window Called Welcome to Active Directory installation Wizard Click next and next

It opens a window, where you have to select an option called Create a new Domain in a New forest Whenever we are going to create FIRST domain or first FOREST we will select this option It creates main Domain Controller or ROOT Domain Controller Click next In next step it will ask for provide a New domain name Provide a new domain name ex: vsp.com Ensure that the domain name ends with .com/.org/.in It will check the uniqueness of the domain Here it will ask for forest function level select the windows 2000 level Provide domain function level as windows 2000 native After click next it shows a windows with check mark of DNS server That means whenever you are installing the A.D. D.S it will automatically installs the DNS too In the next step it shows the database files NTDS.DIT & SYSVOL Click next it will ask for create a password Just create a password. It is useful for future; whenever we will backup & restore our A.D.D.S In the next step it shows export settings If you will export settings, it will be useful, whenever you are installing the A.D.D.S in Core mode or Whenever the A.D.D.S. is crashed In the next step the installation wizard will completes the installation It will ask for restart, select restart and start to use the services of A.D.D.S Now vsp.com domain is ready to use.

Stage II Adding Web Server IIS Role Go to Win2k8 machine Click on Start and Go to SERVER MANAGER It opens Server Manager Window Select ROLES - Select Add Role from Right Pane Click next Here you need to select Web Server IIS role ; check mark on Web server (IIS) and click Add When you click add it will show a pop up window Add Required Features Just click OK Click next After sometime the role will install Now click on close Now the server is ready with Web Sever IIS role.

Stage III For Conformation, weather the IIS is Installed or Not Go to Server machine Start and go to Computer Open C: drive It shows a folder name called inetpub If you cant find the above folder your installation is not properly donecheck once again. If you found that folder you are right. You will go ahead for further steps

Stage IV Creating Forward Lookup Zone & Reverse Lookup Zone

Creating Forward Lookup Zone : When we install Web Server (IIS) it is automatically creates forward lookup zone. No need to create separately. It should contain 3 records called : SOA, NS & HOST (A) For checking this records Go to start Administrative Tools Select DNS It opens a window In that window select Computer Name from left pane for Example : Jet3 Expand the computer Name Where you will find : Forward lookup Zone, Reverse Lookup Zone Expand forward lookup zone You will find your domain name vsp.com Expand it you will find the above said three records. So, you need not to create records in Forward lookup zone

Creating Reverse Lookup Zone : Go to start Administrative Tools Select DNS It opens a window In that window select Computer Name from left pane for Example : Jet3 Expand the computer Name Where you will find : Forward lookup Zone, Reverse Lookup Zone Select Reverse Lookup Zone

Right Click on Reverse Lookup Zone Select New Zone Click Next In the next step it will ask for Zone Type : Select Primary Zone In the next Step select To all Domain Controllers in this Domain Click Next In next step Select IPv4 version reverse lookup zone Click next Provide Net work portion of your IP address i.e., 10.0.0. Click next In the next Step you need to Choose the Dynamic Update Select Allow both non Secure and Secure Dynamic Updates Click next and finish the wizard Now expand reverse lookup zone Click on 0.0.10.in-addr.arpa Now you can see Two Records in Reverse Lookup Zone on Right side window SOA and NS

Stage V Creating ALIAS Record in Forward Lookup Zone & Reverse Lookup Zone

Creating ALIAS Record in Forward Lookup zone : Go to start Administrative Tools Select DNS It opens a window In that window select Computer Name from left pane for Example : Jet3 Expand the computer Name Where you will find : Forward lookup Zone, Reverse Lookup Zone Select Forward Lookup Zone Expand it You will find your domain Name over there Example : vsp.com Right Click on Domain Name and Click New Alias It Opens a Window called New Resource Record provide the fallowing information over there

In the field of Alias Name provide : www In the field of Fully Qualified domain name (FQDN) Click on browse it opens your System name double click on that Double click on forward lookup zone double click on vsp.com select your computer name click ok and OK Now the record is created in forward lookup zone. Now you need to create in reverse lookup zone.

Creating ALIAS Record in Reverse Lookup zone : Go to start Administrative Tools Select DNS It opens a window In that window select Computer Name from left pane for Example : Jet3 Expand the computer Name Where you will find : Forward lookup Zone, Reverse Lookup Zone Select Reverse Lookup Zone Expand it

You will find 0.0.10.in-addr.arpa Right Click on that and Click New Alias It Opens a Window called New Resource Record provide the fallowing information over there

In the field of Alias Name provide : www In the field of Fully Qualified domain name (FQDN) Click on browse it opens your System name double click on that Double click on forward lookup zone double click on vsp.com select your computer name click ok and OK Now the record is created in backward lookup zone.

Stage VI Creating a HTML page for your website www.vsp.com Go to start Computer _ C: drive Open the folder inetclub Open the folder wwroot Delete all the files in that folder Now right click in open place - create a new notepad- create some text save as it vsp.html Now we created a HTML page for hosting

Stage VII Settings of Internet Information Services (IIS ) Manager Go to start Administrative Tools Click on Internet Information Services (IIS) manager Version 7 It opens a window called as Internet Information Services 7 Select Computer Name from Left pane In the right side windows it shows some Programs in that select Default Document Double click on Default Document It shows some list of default Entries, just delete all the files ONE BY ONE Now Click on Sites Expand it You will find Default Website Right click on Sites Add Website And provide the information of the fallowing fields Site Name Physical Path Host Name : : : www.vsp.com provide the path where you saved the Webpage 10.0.0.115

Now it shows your domain name with cross symbol Ex : www.vsp.com Select www.vsp.com from left pane When you select www.vsp.com in the right side of the page it shows VSP.COM Home page area Double click on Default Document Click ADD located at the right side upper side of the page When you click on Add It opens a popup, where you need to enter the HTML page name vsp.html Click OK

Now go to www.vsp.com from left pane Right click on that and select Manage Website Restart Now the webpage is ready to browse Now go to www.vsp.com Right click on that and select Mange Website and select Browse Now www.vsp.com website will open in Internet Explorer with 10.0.0.115 IP address. Now go to web browser type www.vsp.com It opens your html page. Now you can check the webpage form XP also ( * Assign the Preferred as Server IP) Go to internet explorer and type www.vsp.com it opens the webpage.
