What is missing in our department?

Junior-Senior interaction next to nil Frequent sessions proposed at important points during the

year where information/skills are most necessary Sessions by Seniors/Alumni Proposed examples
End of first year session about department, opportunities

available, terms used frequently by Naval Architects(NAs)

Motive : generate interest before start of course encouraging them to learn more about it during summers by themselves

Sept/Oct of Second year session about internships in our

department its importance, resume building for it, mailing and recommendations

longer than what we hear through our ears!

Activities
Samudramanthan is a great forum and a plethora of

activities are promoted but how many of us participate in it? Are we putting up a good show?
Fun-quotient in the fest is it there? Proposed integrating interesting workshops in fest Proposed model exhibition Review of entire Samudramanthan planning required

Conceptualizing the events and activities in Samudramanthan Planning usually starts in Nov-Dec Proposal to start it earlier in Sept-Oct Events conceptualized by October Inviting Participation DP holidays to be used for invitations Invitations not to be limited to Naval Architecture colleges Mechanical engineering as well Sponsorship Product Packaging to be revised Sponsorship brochure to be ready by October for DP Different Sponsor Heads required to tap different markets Publicity Concentration required inside institute for participation

Library?! I have often searched for books only to find

that those dont exist in our Central Library. Is it there in our department library? I DONT KNOW!
Reopening proposed
If employees arent enough to work in library, students

can volunteer/put on library-duty

Department Magazine Restart proposed Report of our activities, felicitation of good contributors, deliverable to stakeholders

functional) A national programme in marine hydrodynamics under our department has a much better website under the institute than our department! CORAL has one! Student & Faculty portals for opportunities in the department for projects

How to make money for all of this?! Proposal : Year-long packaging Approach followed till now : For every event, call up

different shipyards and request for money! Some or the other company will give us some money Proposed : Make a proposal containing all events/activities in the year and promote year-long branding opportunities for the company special mention for company in all events. Could also request Study tours/sessions by the company for our students

Group activities initiated by NAROES Inter-batch sports matches Group Tours to nearby places during short holidays

The list is endless!

To conclude, what I wish to do is way beyond anyone has dreamt about for the position of President, NAROES. I wish to transform the very job-role of a President. I wish to make our department sound internally and externally. This is not an exhaustive list of proposals. Im always welcome to your ideas and look forward to hearing your questions and suggestions.
