A professionally developed strategy ensures that your investments are made for the right business reasons and avoids the misdirection of resources effectively.
ICT strategy should be based on a derivation of needs from the business strategy, be continually seeking to improve core business processes and provide for business information needs while seeking out opportunities created by new technologies. Strategy development methods can enhance the planning process while adding much needed discipline, transparency and comprehensiveness. However, real strategy is crafted in many conversations, that go on all the time. No methodology can capture this dynamic. Moreover, ICT strategy must occur in the middle of imperfection that can include unclear business strategy, poor understanding of ICT opportunities, and political behavior. No method can fully compensate for these imperfections. The development of ICT strategy is a critical and complicated process. While this process will never be easy, it should not be unnecessarily impeded by misconceptions.
