Vihangam Yoga
Nov-Dec 2011 From the editors desk
Greetings dear readers! Welcome to another issue of the monthly newsletter by North America Institute of Vihangam Yoga. We wish all the readers around the globe a very Happy Thanksgiving Day. It has become a day for national celebration, festivities and general gaiety. On this day, people offer thanks to God for their material and spiritual possession. This edition brings the continued portion of the article The Devotional Love- Prem. Disciples should have an unquestionable faith in Sadguru and should immerse themselves in the divine messages of Sadguru. One can derive lot of inner strength by selfless and unconditional love for Sadguru, as it is the first step towards enlightenment and achievement of Bhakti (devotion). The disciple desiring the abode of prem or unconditional love, first needs to bow down their head i.e., should let go their ego and their pride. Disciples practicing spirituality or the meditation on the plane of consciousness without ego or pride can lead to exponential growth in love or devotion. The significance of \ in Vihangam yoga is also covered in this edition. The \ symbol is not just a logo, or just another mark to differentiate Vihangam yoga with others, it carries a real spiritual significance that can only be experienced in the process of meditation. It is not a subject of discussion or theory but a subject of experience. Few questions may come to our mind - why Sadguru has only chosen the word \ in Vihangam yoga? We will learn it and more from this newsletter. Keep posting your valuable suggestions and feedbacks for further improvements. Happy Reading!!! NAIVY newsletter team

The Devotional Love- Prem

(Continued from the previous edition)

The depth of true Love has also been described by Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj in Swarved. Chaatak may break its vow, jewel-bearing snake may give up its jewel and yet survive; but the Loving devotee shall not the stream of Spiritual Love constantly flows in his soul. He reaches the zenith of love. There are several practitioners of Vihangam Yoga who have acquired this precious treasure in the priceless journey of human life. There are several highly evolved souls, who have attained this priceless jewel of Spiritual Love. Spiritual Love pervades in their lives. As a result, ignorance, egoism, hatred and malice get vanished and their lives progress on the path of true Love. What is required is just the feeling of Spiritual Love not any external make-up or attire. What do the words of Kabir Saheb say? Prem bhaav ek chaahiye, bhesh anek banaaye| Bhavey ghar mey waas kar, bhavey van mey jaye|| Whether someone follows a materialistic life with a family or becomes an ascetic and goes to a secluded forest, Spiritual Love should be there. If there is no Spiritual Love, or the feeling of Love is not ignited, then what can be achieved in a forest? But, if the virtue of Spiritual Love is present, one can attain the zenith of human life even while staying in the house with ones family. This is the

secret of Brahma Vidya Vihangam Yoga. Several people do not have Spiritual Love within them. Nevertheless, their outer appearance is that of a Lover. Inside, there is a complete absence of Spiritual Love; but from their external appearance, they would appear to be God-Lovers. Love for God and Spiritual Master does not germinate through surface appearance, it cannot be spread. If the elements of Spiritual Love exist as an intrinsic value then the external-surface manifestation makes no difference. The need is of inner experience; need is to acquire the inner treasure. Whatever may be our external appearance, whatever dress we may put on, that dress does not qualify us to be a devotee; does not prove us to be religious. A devotee or a religious person is none but the one who possesses inner invaluable qualities. If ones inner consciousness is devoid of Spiritual Love, if there is an internal yearning for worldly pleasure, if there is a craving for the materialistic pleasures only then he is not a Spiritual Lover, he is not a devotee. We have always been given the message to give up the egoism. From the words of sages and from the divine lessons of Swarved we receive the divine guidance to eradicate feelings of me and mine. One, who loves God and Spiritual Master, is equally loved back by God and Spiritual Master. Such a person sets an example in the world, he becomes a role model. His life, his efforts, his deeds they all become unforgettable and it leads and inspires many others lives. So there is a need for Spiritual Love, for a heart-felt, exclusive Love. A practitioner cannot make progress if he possesses ego, pride Page 1, Volume 3, Number 30, Nov-Dec 2011

and ignorance. He cannot attain spiritual achievement with those attributes. Let the Spiritual Love bloom; there is a mutual dependency between knowledge and Spiritual Love. This is the very medium through which devotion is sustained. Let us all pledge to surrender ourselves completely at the lotus feet of our Divine Master and by doing so completely conquer the biggest nemesis for PREM or divine love, which is Ego. Let us shower our divine love to our holy Master through Seva (or Service), Sadhana (or Meditation) and Satsang and achieve the prime goal of this precious human life, which is to attain Yog or union with Almighty and put an end to the endless cycle of birth and re-births.

of a journey where the conscious rays of soul travel from the Prakriti to the Parmatma. In this journey, there comes a divine moment when the soul experiences the divine light form of Akshar Brahma wherein \ comes into experience in the zone of consciousness. It is only after the light of Akshar Brahma i.e. the experience of \ in light form, the all pervading supreme consciousness of Parmatma becomes evident. Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj writes in Swarved: Dwadash dash gam gyaan vibheda| Dash pramaan mandal var veda|| \ pratibha anubhav gam aawe| Gagan mahal shobha chhavi chhaave|| Sarvottam samadhi var dhaama| Anubhav sukh satpurush anaama|| Swarveda 06/02/02-07 The supreme secret experience of spirituality lies between Dash (ten) and Dwadash (twelve) door, upon unfolding which, the Sadguru, with his unique ability, makes a completely surrendered and utterly special disciple experience the most divine God as the ultimate reward. In this rare experience, first the unique divine light form of \ comes into experience. In front of this divine light, even the light from the millions of sun together would appear like the light of a mere atom in the vast universe. Such rare experience of \ in the abode of pure consciousness is the indication of the utmost blessings of Lord Sadgurudeo because only a few rare chosen disciples acquire such rare experiences. The oozing light of \ is the experience of the light form of Akshar Brahma which becomes the basis of the experience of the ultimate destination, the abode of God with the Brahma Gyaan. Thus, \ with emitting light printed on any artifacts of Vihangam Yoga implicitly means the abode of supreme lord as well as the lords flow of Brahma Vidya. That supreme abode of God known as Virajdhaam, is the greatest, the most divine, the most conscious and the purest white. In this abode, the purest Hansa form of soul realizes the utmost satisfaction and peace with the taste of the nectar of the pure three quadrants. The real bliss known as Shreyanand that the soul is seeking ignorantly in the mortal land is ultimately realized only in this zone of nectar. With the command of Nitya Anadi Sadguru (the Eternal Master), endowed with twenty divine arts, the most praise-worthy Maharshi Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj has taken a pledge to spread the awareness of Brahma Vidya Vihangam Yoga in the entire mortal land. At the same time, He determined to hoist the white flag with centrally printed \ in every nook and corner of this world. This white flag printed with \ is the flag of

Brahma Vidya. \ printed on this flag is a divine hint to the travelers of spirituality that their destination is not yet reached if this light of \ is not yet revealed. The \ in the white flag is also a challenge to all half baked Gurus whose reach is within the limits of the prakriti and yet claim to have acquired the experience of lord beyond prakriti. The incompetence of such unrealized Guru in deciphering the meaning of \ reveals the incomplete journey of their spiritual exploration. This flag has four corners which indicates that the knowledge of Brahma Vidya will spread everywhere in all four directions. Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj writes in Swarved: Brahma Vidya hai Brahmaja, hai yah ishwariya dhaar| Dabei na saari shakti se, Sadguru jagat prachaar|| Brahma Vidya is born out of Supreme soul. It is the supreme flow of Supreme knowledge from God. All obstacles together too would fail to stop the awareness of this knowledge in the entire mortal land. Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj has also written His words of salutation to this white flag through Dhwaja Gaan. It reads like: Shwet dhwaja madhumat mam pyaara| Sadguru saar shabd sab paara|| Brahma Vidya ke tej prakaashe| Gyaan poorna maiy sab tatva bhase|| Bhakti som ras antar vaase| Bahar bheetar shabda adhaara|| In all ceremonies of Vihangam Yoga, it is through hoisting the big white flag that the present Sadguru Shri Swatantradeo Ji Maharaj inaugurates an event. Through this gesture, Sadguru passes the message that this knowledge is open for entire human race. The white color in the flag is the symbol of all round peace and bliss. It also reflects the purest intention of nondiscriminations of region, religion, creed, cast or race. The recitation of Dhwaja Gaan is very rejuvenating. It brings back the passion of a devoted disciple for the dissemination of Sadguru Gyaan. The white flag hoisted at the roof of an individuals home protects the family from all evils. In its vicinity, the evil thoughts vanish and the pure devotion prevails. Let us go through the concluding lines of Dhwaja Gaan and draw the inspiration of developing a complete devotion towards the lotus feet of Lord Sadgurudeo: Sant samaaj santmat saara| Oonch dhwaja nit rahe hamaara|| Dhwaja aan par sab kuchh vaara| Dev Sadafal Akshar nyaara||

The significance of \ in VY
- By Vijay Kumar

Yog and Bhakti are two widely known terms. Yog in the name of Yoga is highly publicized and Bhakti is inherent to all believers of God. There are innumerous yoga institutes all around the world that wonderfully teaches various yoga and breathing postures for the betterment of our health. However, in this process, people have lost the true essence of Yog and have mistaken these useful physical practices of Yogasana and Pranayama as Yog. The true essence of Yog has been lost. Similarly, bhakti has also degraded down to the physical base. People have started using their physical organs, mind and intellect in the name of Bhakti and have lost its core essence. Both Yog and Bhakti have lost their grip of the conscious base and have fallen down to the practices based on body, prana, mind and intellect. We have lost the base of consciousness. \ in Vihangam Yoga is here to restore the original true essence of Yog and Bhakti. It is here to say that Yog and Bhakti are the subject of consciousness and not the body. Those continuing to practice Yoga for Yog and Physical Bhakti for true conscious Bhakti should not expect to achieve the eternal peace and bliss. They must know that their benefits would also be confined to their body, mind and intellect. The Brahma Vidya Vihangam Yoga is an eternal technique based on the science of consciousness. Unlike the physical yoga prevalent today, Vihangam Yoga does not confine itself within the practices of body, prana, mind or intellect. Vihangam Yoga unfolds the complete essence of Yog directly to the soul in the zone of pure consciousness. Yog truly means the union of soul with the supreme soul. The journey to the culmination of Yog is travelled neither by twisting the body in different poses nor it is travelled with the mind. It is not the outcomes of regulating the breaths in different patterns nor is it the conclusion of intellectual discussions. Yog is the destination

The great glory of Brahma Vidya Vihangam Yoga finds its mention in all the spiritual scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagvad Geeta, Ramayana, but is least understood and practiced. During recent times, Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj has revived the same supreme knowledge by creating an encyclopedia of spirituality the Swarved. This book was written by Him on His path of spiritual exploration. Swarved has the best concurrence of the experience and expression. The below couplet from Swarved talks about Bhakti and Vairagya: Pratham bhakti gurudeva ki, mann vachh kaya saadh| Sahaj gyan vairaag hai, saba guna saadhan raadh|| Swarved- 06-01-01 Purport: By controlling the mind, speech and body one should go to the teacher of Brahmavidya in Sadgurus shelter and please Him through service and devotion. Thereafter they should begin meditative practices. They should also develop qualities such as knowledge, reclusion, restraint over their sense organs, tolerance etc. So, the devotee should always serve Sadgurus holy feet and pray for bhakti. Binu Viraga sadhana nahi, jala binu chalai ki naav | Paksha hina khaga nahi udai, pangu shikhar fala khava || Swarved- 06-06-75

Purport: To forsake all the wealth of the three worlds and other pleasure of senses, thinking them to be as dirty as the night-soil of a crow is called reclusion. Without it, practice for attaining the Lord cannot be done. A boat can't sail without water. A bird can't fly without wings. A lame person cannot climb atop a tree and taste fruits thereof. Even for an aspirant it is essential to have aversion for the pleasure of entire cosmos, without which (vairagya) one cant do saadhan (Meditative practices to attain the supreme soul). Till an aspirant has attachment with this world his conscious sense will always be pulled into the worldly affairs. He cannot stay firm in the immortal zone. Both Bhakti and Vairagya are the essential tools of spiritual path. Without these nobody can progress in the path of spirituality. || Jai Sadgurudeo ||
