#1 Title: Flags of Asia Subject: Social Studies Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Visual Art Length: 30 minutes Standards: Social Studies-A.4.1, A.4.2 Visual Arts- G.4.4, H.4.3 Objective: Students will look at the flag of the country they chose within the continent that was assigned to the class and make the flag using construction paper. Goals: Students will be able to identify the shapes that s/he used. Students will be able to identify the colors that s/he used. Students will be able to identify the country that s/he used. Students will be able to state the continent in which the country is in. Materials: Pictures of the flags in Asia, construction paper in all color, scissors, glue, pencil, Procedures: Opening: Do all of you remember when we talked about Asia as a continent for our global studies? Well, today we will do an activity on the countries that is in Asia. We have a lot of countries. We have 52 countries in Asia. You will get to choose one country and study about that one country throughout our global studies.

Your focus today is to make the flag of your country. You must get in touch with your artsy side and make the flag. You can use the picture that is provided for you. You must identify the shape and the colors that are on the flag. Steps in Delivery: I will put the construction paper on the table. The students will observe their flag and determine the materials needed to make their flag. The students will come and get the materials as needed. You can talk to your classmates about your flag and how you constructed your flag. What shapes did you use? What color did you use? What country does that flag represent? Closing: All of your flags look gorgeous. You all worked hard on it. Congratulations! Now we get to show the whole school our beautiful artwork of the flags that we made today! Assessment: I will ask the students questions as they approach me with their flags. I will ask them about the shapes and the colors. The students goal is to learn the shapes and colors. I want to make sure they knew which color and shaped they used. I will record what they wrote down on paper and keep it as a record in their ongoing portfolio. #2 Title: Art through Time in Asian Countries Subject: Social Studies Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Visual Art Length: 30 minutes Standards: A.4.4 Learn about styles of art from various times; B.4.2 Use a timeline to select, organize, and sequence information describing eras in history Objective: Students will look at pictures of art work that has been present from centuries ago and compare them to the art work today. Materials: Photos of ancient artwork from Asian countries, photos of artwork that are produced in the modern days.

Procedures: Students will be divided into two different groups. One group will get the ancient artwork and one group will get the modern artwork. They will discuss it for a while and switch the photos. Once all the students have seen the photos, there will be a class discussion on the photos and make comparison. Assessment: Observations of the students discussion. #3 Title: Creative words used in Asian countries Subject: Language Art Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Dance Length: 30 minutes Standards: RL.1.4 Identify words and phrases in stories or poems that suggests feelings or appeal to the senses; E.4.3 Identify the movement elements in creative movement studies. Objective: Students will identify the words of action that is said in an Asian country and make a dance move representing that word. Materials: words from different countries of Asia Procedures: Students will each get a different word and be able to make a movement of some sort to match and describe that word. The students can choose to work alone or be with a partner for this activity. Once the students know their move, they are going to show the class. The class can all learn the move and make a dance with all the moves integrated together. Assessment: Observations of students. #4 Title: Learning Lyrics Subject: Language Art Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Music Length: 30 minutes

Standards: RL.1.2 Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson; C.4.4 Improvise short songs and instrumental pieces, using a variety of sound sources, including traditional sounds, sounds available in the classroom, body sounds, and sounds produced by electronic means Objective: Students will be able to listen to folk songs from some Asian country. Students will be able to look at the lyrics and make means with it. Materials: Lyrics from around the country India and Mongolia. Procedures: Students will be able to choose a folk song from Indian and Mongolia then analyze the lyrics. The student will look at the lyric and try to make out the story or the meaning behind the lyrics. They will eventually sing the song to the class. Assessment: Students will be assessed on how well they analyze the song using running records. They will be called individually to do the assessment. #5 Title: Reading a Play Subject: Language Art Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Theatre Length: 30 minutes Standards: RL.1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details; A.4.2 Read a play explain what happened in the play identify and describe the characters say what they liked and did not like

Objective: Students will be able read a play from the country China and Thailand. Materials: Two plays from China and Thailand. Procedures: Students will be able to read two play from each country. They will be able to act out a part of the play. If the acting out becomes too hard to accomplish, the students will work on reading the play only. Each student will be paired with a partner to do a certain section of the play.

Assessment: Students will be recorded using anecdotal notes. The teacher will be assessing fluency and how the child is interacting with other students. #6 Title: Making a Move Subject: Math Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Dance Length: 30 minutes Standards: 1.NBT.1 Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral; D.4.6 Begin to use scientific and/or mathematical concepts to create movement studies Objective: Students will be able to construct a step-to-step dance movement using music from Yemen and Japan. Materials: Active and engaging songs from the country Yemen and Japan in Asia. Procedures: Students will be able to listen to music from Yemen and Japan. Students will be in groups of three to four people. Students will have the opportunity to create a dance move to the song. Students can do anything they want to do, but have a reason why the dance move fits the music. Students also have to count the step that they take. The more number of steps the better. Assessment: Students will be assessed on how well they are working with others. Students will also be observed on the way the students are coming up with the dance moves and why. #7 Title: Reading Notations Subject: Math Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Music Length: 30 minutes Standards: K.OA.4 For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or

equation; E.4.2 Use a system (syllables, numbers, or letters) to read simple pitch notation in the treble clef in major keys Objective: Students will look at music sheets from Sri Lanka and Indonesia and see if they use numbers in their music making steps. Materials: Music notations from Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Procedures: Students will look at the music notations. They will be able to assess the notations and read them and determine if there are numbers associated with notations and music. Assessment: Students will be assessed on how well they are making the connections between notations and numbers. This will be an informal assessment by taking anecdotal notes. #8 Title: Prop Master Subject: Math Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Theatre Length: 30 minutes Standards: K.G.1 Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to; B.4.1 Pretend to be someone else, creating a character based on scripted material or through improvisation, using props, costume pieces, and ideas. Objective: Students will be given a community role from Iran and Laos and act out that role using props from the classroom. Materials: Play props, role cards, and information on what the community person do. Procedures: Students will be given a role card with information on that role and what impact the person has on the community. Students will be able to name and use the different props in the classroom. Assessment: The students will be assessed on how well they are naming the objects they choose as their prop. An example is; if its a cadet at the stop light, the prop could be a stop sign, what shape is the person holding and what can the students use as a prop.

#9 Title: Pottery Lesson Subject: Math Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Visual Arts Length: 30 minutes Standards: K.G.3 Identify shapes as two-dimensional (lying in a plane, flat) or three dimensional (solid); B.4.3 Know that works of art and designed objects relate to specific cultures, times, and places Objective: Students will be identifying the different pots and paintings from Russia and Turkey as two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Materials: Some pots and paintings from Russia and Turkey. (If I cant get the actual items, I will be using pictures and having just examples that are in the U.S. that I can get a hold of). Procedures: Students will be assessing and naming the pots and paintings two or threedimensional. Students will be working at their table groups. Each student will be writing down what they believe it is onto a sheet of paper. Assessment: Student will be assessed using a rubric for the sheet that they wrote on. #10 Title: Resting and Moving Subject: Science Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Dance Length: 30 minutes Standards: D.4.6 Observe and describe physical events in objects at rest or in motion; A.4.2 Define and maintain personal space and move safely in groups throughout the general space rotate, stretch, or swing) Objective: Students will move freely around the room and saying out loud what country they are in in the continent Asia and if they are in rest or motion.

Materials: a room with lots of space to move Procedures: The students will move freely around the room. They will say which country they are in. They will then determine if they are in rest or motion. Assessment: Students will be assessed with anecdotal notes. Students will be assessed on the country they choose. It has to be within the continent that they are studying. Students will also be assessed if they are accurate in determining their action as rest or in motion. #11 Title: Making Music Subject: Science Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Music Length: 30 minutes Standards: D.4.8 Ask questions and make observations to discover the differences between substances that can be touched (matter) and substances that cannot be touched (forms of energy, light, heat, electricity, sound, and magnetism); F.4.5 Identify the sounds of a variety of instruments, including many orchestra and band instruments and instruments from various cultures, as well as male and female adult voices Objective: Students will discuss the different sounds that the instrument from Pakistan and Philippines make. Materials: instruments from Pakistan and Philippines. Procedures: Students will be handed an instrument from a country. The students will be able to identify the various sounds it make and discuss the different sounds it makes. Assessment: Students will observed on how well they are interacting with other classmates and how they are using analyzing and problem solving skills to get to the answer they want. #12 Title: Sounds of the Wild Subject: Science Grade Level: Kindergarten

Art Discipline: Theatre Length: 30 minutes Standards: F.4.3 Illustrate the different ways that organisms grow through life stages and survive to produce new members of their type; B.4.2 Create a human or animal character through physical movement with sounds and/or speech, using facial expressions Objective: Students will make the sound of an animal that lives in Asia and draw it. Materials: paper, pencil, markers, crayons Procedures: Students will listen to clips of the sound that animal make that lives in Asia. The students will listen to it twice and then make the sound the third time around. Students will be asked to draw an animal that lives in Asia. They will be shown a map that has all the animals living there on it. Assessment: Students will be assessed on how well they are participating and if they are willing to make the sounds of the animal. #13 Title: Global Garden Subject: Science Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Visual Art Length: multiple days Standards: F.4.3 Illustrate the different ways that organisms grow through life stages and survive to produce new members of their type; C.4.5 Look at nature and works of art as visual resources Objective: Students will learn about the different plants that grow in Asia that is different from the ones we see in Wisconsin. Materials: cup, soil, seed, water, journal, pencil, crayons, and markers Procedures: Students will grow a plant that is grown in an Asia in a cup and draw it every day to see how it is changing and growing. Students will learn the name of the different plant and then plant it. Student will then observe it over a time period.

Assessment: Students will be assessed on their journal. There will be a rubric that comes with it and they will be assessed on how well they are observing and drawing their plants. #14 Title: Dancing with history Subject: Social Studies Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Dance Length: 30 minutes Standards: B.4.2 Use a timeline to select, organize, and sequence information describing eras in history; C.4.2 Improvise spontaneous dances using poetry, stories, and props Objective: Students will select an event in the country Vietnam and North and South Korea and dance to it. Materials: timeline of events from Vietnam, North, and South Korea, props Procedures: Students will be reading an event that happened in one of the Asia country and make a dance that matches that event. It can be slow or fast and can be any movement to match that event to emphasize the loss or the gain of the event. Assessment: Students will be assessed on the dance movement and their rationale to that dance movement. #15 Title: Multicultural Families Subject: Social Studies Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Music Length: 30 minutes Standards: C.4.1 Identify and explain the individual's responsibilities to family, peers, and the community, including the need for civility and respect for diversity; A.4.3 Sing from memory a varied repertoire of songs representing genres and styles from diverse cultures

Objective: Students will learn about family from Asia. Materials: books and music from various countries in Asia about family Procedures: Students will first read some books about how the families are in a specific Asia country. They then will describe how the family is through singing. Assessment: Students will be observed on the work that they did during the class time. They will also be observed on how well they understand the material they read. #16 Title: Court scene Subject: Social Studies Grade Level: Kindergarten Art Discipline: Theatre Length: 30 minutes Standards: C.4.5 Explain how various forms of civic action such as running for political office, voting, signing an initiative, and speaking at hearings, can contribute to the well-being of the community; C.4.2 Select a story or topic and plan a play with a beginning, middle, and end Objective: Students will act out a court scene from china. Materials: Court scene and information from china Procedures: Each student will be given a role to play for that event in the court. Each student will read their part and act it out from the beginning, middle, and end. Assessment: Anecdotal notes will be taken while the students are working on their part.
