Assignment 12: Who manages our forests? Due: before 12 noon on Wednesday, March 14 There are 2 parts to this assignment. Part 1: What are the natural resource responsibilities of each of the following agencies and organizations? BE specific and complete particularly with respect to their forest related responsibilities. You need to only respond to those that are numbered (the rest are there for organizational purposes). After you have completed this part of the assignment, please submit it via the ANGEL drop box associated with this assignment. Federal agencies Department of Agriculture 1. USDA Forest Service -Preparation of the forest service strategic plan, coordination of the annual performance and accountability report, coordination of program evaluations under the results act, and preparation of resource assessment. Natural Resource Conservation Service - Deals with managing farmers and the resources they use.

3. Consolidated Farm Service Agency - A grass roots service that helps farmers out with their farms, deals with local legislature for farmers. 4. National Institute of Food and Agriculture -stimulate and fund the research and technological innovations that will enhance american agriculture and make it more productive and environmentally sustainable,. Department of the Interior 5. National Park Service -manages all national parks, monuments and other conservation as well as historical properties with various title designations. 6. Bureau of Land Management - Manages the public land in the country which accounts for one eighth of the total country. 7. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Management of fish, wildlife, and their respective natural habitats. They try to conserve the habitats as well as have them benefit the american people.

8. Bureau of Indian Affairs -Deals with the management of indian territories and their rights on their land. Department of Defense 9. US Army Corps of Engineers - They handle all problems and building of dams, canals, and flood protection services within the united states. 10. Department of Defense Military Installations ( this is not an agency per se but what responsibilities does the DOD take for resource management on the 25 million acres of land in military bases?) State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources 11. Forest Resources Division -Deal with delegating which land can be explored for oil, gas, and other minerals. 12. Wildlife Division - Regulate licenses and hunting seasons for the various wildlife in Michigan as well as protecting endangered species. 13. Fisheries Division -works to preserve and enhance Michigan's fish populations, as well as other forms of aquatic life. 14. Parks and Recreation Division -manage all 97 state parks and recreation areas, 829 developed boating access sites, ten lighthouses, 16 harbors and six scenic sites. 15. Department of Agriculture -enforce laws regarding agriculture production and distribution.
