Name: The name of this organization shall be the Society for Pre-Law Students of Color. Purpose: The purpose of this organization shall be to support, promote, and progress the undergraduate population of underrepresented minorities interested in legal education. To achieve this purpose, the organization aims to: - Provide those with law school aspirations with encouragement, motivation, and access to the multiple resources that will establish them as competitive candidates for law school - Educate members on current legal matters and trends so as to improve understanding of the field of law and inform the choice to enter a corresponding line of work - Facilitate networking and mentorship opportunities that create supportive and information-sharing relationships with other law professionals that are underrepresented minorities - Work in collaboration with other multicultural pre-professional groups, other pre-law groups, within the university and throughout the nation, as well law student groups to expand professional development and understanding of legal education - Recommend and inform about various legal opportunities available to underrepresented minorities Leadership/Officers: Positions: The University of Pennsylvania Society for Pre-Law Students of Color will have seven board positions consisting of: President, Vice President of Internal Affairs, Director of External Relations, Financial Manager, Recording Correspondent, Director of Public Relations, and Creative Director. The positions of Director of External Relations, Director of Public Relations and Financial Manager can be split into two positions. Additional positions can be added upon unanimous vote of the acting board to fulfill organizational needs. Qualifications for all positions, with exception of the President position, are that candidates be officially a part of the organization for a minimum of one semester and will be returning to the organization for the following year. Eligibility: A candidate for President must be a member of the organization for a minimum of two semesters and be a board member for a minimum of one semester. Terms: Officers will be initially elected for a school year term as the organization grows officers will be elected for calendar year terms.

Vacancies: In the event of vacancy, another election will be held and another member will be elected. Board members can be removed with a petition signed by the simple majority from the general body submitted to the board or the majority of board members. Duties: President The President is responsible for overseeing all operations concerning University of Pennsylvania Society for Pre-Law Students of Color. S/He acts as the primary liaison between the public and the organization. The President chairs all board meetings and general meetings. S/He serves as the face of the group, being primarily accountable for the groups integrity, unity and impact on the community. S/He must keep all other board members and general members abreast of group activities. The President is responsible for assuming or delegating any other unforeseen duties that may arise. Vice President of Internal Affairs - The Vice President of Internal Affairs is responsible for managing the internal affairs of the organization which includes but is not limited to: membership, the structure of the organization and the board, and meetings. This position serves as the main liaison between the general body and the board. Director of External Affairs The Director of External Affairs is responsible for managing the external affairs of the organization, which includes but is not limited to: relations with other campus organizations and outside corporations. This position serves as the main liaison between the organization, the university, the community, and beyond. The position also has a strong corporate outreach component. This individual will be responsible for fostering and developing relationships with various law schools admission offices, with a greater focus on T-14 schools. Specific duties include but are not limited to serving a liaison to Career Services, the primary contact for any networking activities as well as establishing connections between the group and other professional corporations and organizations. Financial Manager The Financial Manager will handle the finances of the organization. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, collecting dues, developing a yearly budget, soliciting funds, and managing fund raising endeavors. Recording Correspondent The Recording Correspondent will primarily assist in sustaining a consistent, organized structure of the group. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, clerical responsibilities of the group such as taking attendance, maintaining the list of members, amending and providing the application, assisting in correspondence involved with the group, recording notes at the general and board meetings, and possessing of paperwork and electronic documents. Director of Public Relations The Director of Public Relations will catalyze stronger relationships within the group through functions and gatherings of professional or social nature. The Director will be responsible for heading logistical planning and administrating any and all events. This individual will also promote awareness about the group and its activities and be at the helm of marketing for these events as well.

Creative Director The Creative Director will be responsible for the all creative images projected concerning the group. S/He will develop and promote the logo for the group, as well as create and produce all necessary media. Duties include, but are not limited to, developing a logo, creating fliers and conceiving all creative messages associated with the group. This position will work most closely with Director of Public Relations. Election Process: Until the general body has reached 50 members, the election process will be decided by the senior most members on the board that will not be returning in a capacity listed above for the following year. When the general body reaches 50 members, all officers (with the exception of professor/graduate advisor) will be elected by the majority vote of eligible members. In its origins, elections will be done for the school year, to be eventually adjusted to elections for the calendar year. Nominations for the positions will be made prior to the elections. Members must move the nomination process to be opened and closed. The current President will take nominations from the floor. Voting will be done by a secret ballot. Membership: Active membership will be limited to people officially connected to the University of Pennsylvania. Members must be interested in advancing multicultural students interested in the legal profession, education, or the field in general. To become a member, one must complete an application and pay dues in the amount of $10 per semester. The board may adjust the application as well as the dues amount. Only official members, who are current on their dues, have voting rights in elections. Finances: Dues will be due at the beginning of each semester, in the amount of $10. The Financial Manager will collect dues. A majority vote amongst the board is required to authorize expenditures. Meetings: The board will decide the event schedule for the year. Amendments/By-Laws: If a conflict arises that the constitution does not address, amendments to the constitution can be proposed. The board may review and approve the amendment by unanimous vote. By-Laws can be added and removed by the same procedure. Ratification: The Constitution will be ratified immediately after unanimous vote from the board.
