Findlay named one of the nations top micropolitan communities in 2011

Ohio Wins Governors Cup Findlay, Ohio has been ranked the sixth best micropolitan community in the U.S. for new and expanding facilities for 2011 by Site Selection magazine, the official publication of the Industrial Asset Management Council. The magazine ranked 567 of the nations micropolitan areas, cities of 10,000 to 50,000 people which cover at least one county. The Findlay/Hancock County region has ranked well for many years, and moved up from a 25th place ranking in 2010. In addition, the State of Ohio claimed the 2011 Governors Cup with 498 projects, after coming in second for the 2010 cup with a 376, more than a 30 percent increase. This is Ohios sixth Governors Cup in eight years. Findlay-Hancock County is proud to again be ranked as one of the top micropolitan communities in the United States, and to contribute to Ohios success in winning the 2012 Governors Cup Award, said Tony Iriti, FindlayHancock County Economic Development Director. We are grateful for the efforts of our communitys business and public sector leaders as well as our economic development partners that strive to make Findlay and Hancock County a great place to live, work and play. The FindlayHancock County Economic Development Office compiled and submitted several projects that met Site Selections qualifying criteria. Among those that qualified was the opening of HAMLET Protein, representing a $20 million investment, and 85,000 sq. ft., the opening of MITEC, a $33 million investment that created 88 new jobs, the Nissin Brake expansion, which created 135 new jobs and was 280,000 sq ft., the Marathon Petroleum Corp. reorganization, that resulted in 100 new jobs, and several others, making the total number of qualifying projects come to 11, with more than $135 million in investments and 561 new jobs created. Hancock County has made amazing economic progress in the past year, said Findlay Mayor, Lydia Mihalik. Our jump in the micropolitan rankings clearly demonstrates that our hard work is paying off. The Economic Development Office has worked hard to streamline its efforts, and enhance its focus on economic development throughout the region, said John Haywood, The FindlayHancock County Alliance President and CEO. We are grateful for the work of the business partners, facilities managers, board members and regional workforce that promote the Findlay/Hancock County community. We wouldnt be where we are without them. Ed Ingold, Hancock County Commissioner, is also encouraged by the news. This is a big step in the right direction, he said. Weve got a bright future ahead. For more information, please contact the FindlayHancock County Economic Development Office at 419-422-3313 or visit FindlayHancockED.com. ### About The FindlayHancock County Alliance: The FindlayHancock County Alliance is a partnership bringing growth and prosperity to the Findlay/Hancock County community. Plant expansion to create 113 jobs

Bluffton facility to increase to over 300,000 sf GROB Systems, Inc., which is part of the GROB Machine Tool Group, is expanding its existing facility by adding 46,365 square feet of floor space to the current 257,000 square foot plant to build customer orders. This expansion is expected to increase capacity to manufacture machine tools for the powertrain components group, and eventually maintain or increase GROB Systems current market share. The expansion will also add 109 parking spaces to accommodate additional employees. The companys fixed asset investment will include building renovations and leaseholder improvements. It proposes to hire engineers, administrative staff, and operations staff. The company expects to create 113 new full-time positions. The average wage of the jobs will be $15 per hour, plus $3.08 per hour in benefits. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 45%, seven-year tax credit to GROB Systems for the creation of $3.5 million in additional annual payroll at

the project location and will retain $17.6 million in existing payroll. The Authority requires the company to maintain operations at the Village of Bluffton site for at least ten years. According to the Tax Credit Authority, the job creation tax credit is a major factor in GROB Systems decision to expand in Ohio. The automotive industry is experiencing increased demand for production equipment for powertrain components due to delayed investment during the past several years. This increased demand, and an opportunity to accommodate growth, is driving the companys expansion project. State support will help defray the costs of hiring additional employees and position the company to take advantage of this growth opportunity. In addition, the company will claim the tax credit on income tax revenue generated at the project location in excess of the companys baseline income tax revenue at the project site. The credit began in January and will end December 2018.

4 health care communications trends you cant ignore in 2012

This year is going to be filled with uncertainty for the health care industryand, as a result, for health care communications. For starters, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will continue to reshape our health care system, and the Supreme Court will also decide whether an individual health care mandate is constitutional. But even with so many political, economic and regulatory questions hanging in the air, here are four trends that will affect health care communications in 2012. Trend No. 1: The increasing role of social media in health care In 2011, we saw a new trend of more empowered, engaged and better informed patients. Last year, more than 80 percent of Internet users went online for health-related information, to share their experiences and find muchneeded support. While more than two-thirds of physicians used social media for professional purposes. And these figures continue to grow. In 2012, we will see patients forming closer relationships with health care providers and health care brands. This e-patient engagement will force the health care industry to evolve and become an active participant in social media. Social media gives health care communicators a completely new way to engage with health care professionals and patients directly and through online communities. In turn, companies can then tap into these communities to educate patients and gain invaluable research and marketing insights. Most importantly, social media offers an extraordinary opportunity to promote public health, improve health delivery and create more productive relationships between patients and physicians. Trend No. 2: An explosive growth in mobile marketing In 2011, health care professionals surprised the industry by rapidly adopting mobile technologiesat a rate faster than patients. By now, more than 80 percent of doctors own a smartphone and 40 percent use a medical app for work purposes. Health apps organically integrate with physicians everyday activities: they can be used for medical and drug reference, to share EMR data and educate patients through images, video and other resources. Mobile technology is a unique communications vehicle, and it will allow us to micro-target consumers when they are on the go and at other times when they are open to brand communications. Also, it will give us a new way to build long-term relationships through offering high-value, client-focused content. Trend No. 3: The growing need for integrated communications and highly targeted messages In 2012, successful health care communicators will have to offer even greater value than before: they will be responsible for integrating earned, paid and owned media. As health care brands are getting more engaged with digital

Health/Medical

Experience the difference..

and mobile strategies, they will be required to integrate PR, advertising, marketing and digital in a bundle that complements and amplifies a companys message. In addition, the health care industry is moving from mass-producing to concentrating on smaller, more focused groups of clients. Health care PR will echo this trend by shifting from mass marketing to very targeted communications. And digital technologies are here to assist us. Trend No. 4: Focusing on measuring success The days of ad equivalency and impressions are gone. Communications teams will be under pressure to show how their initiatives translate into sales, new leads and potential business ventures. The function as a whole will be moving from measuring outputs (number of interviews and stories, figures on op-eds and press releases placed, and website visits) to outtakes (changes in awareness, opinion, behavior that impact a companys business objectives). It is time to develop meaningful PR metrics. We, at Spector & Associates, are currently testing a measuring tool that will offer our clients an opportunity to truly understand the value of public relations. Stay tuned for a white paper. Tying communications activities to a companys business objectives boosts C-Suite confidence in our abilities as PR professionals, reinforces PRs stature, especially in health care, and makes winning budgets easier. These are just some of my predictions for health care communications 2012. What are yours? Nina Dunn is a communications and media relations specialist at Spector & Associates. Dunn works with the agencys health care and pharmaceutical clients, helping them develop effective thought leadership campaigns and communications strategies.
