Endocrine System Function and Assessment: What are the glands of the Endocrine Function?

In the posterior pituitary Gland you have ADH, and Oxytocin---Anterior Pituitary you have GH, FSH ,Prolactin, LSH, TSh, ACTH.

What is the function of each hormone in the endocrine system? GH-or somatotropin increase cell division in tissues capable of mitosis which is one of the ways it is involved in growth. Also increases the transport of amino acids into cells and their use in protein synthesis. Gh also increases the release of fat from adipose tissue and the use of fats for energy production this is important even after growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). *GH is regulated by growth hormoneinhibiting hormone (GHIH)or somatostatin, both from the hypothalamus. *GHRH- is produced during hypoglycemia or when there is a high blood level of amino acids to be turned into protein. *GHIH-is produced during hyperglycemia when carbohydrates are available for energy production and the mobilization of fat is not needed. Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH or thyrotropin) has only one target organ: the thyroid gland. TSH stimulates growth of the thyroid and the secretion of two of its hormones, thyroxine(T4) and triiodothyronine(T3) Sercetions of TSH is stimulated by thyrotropin releasing hormone) from the hypothalamus when the metabolic rate decreases and there is a need for thyroxine.

Thyroid gland consist of two lobes connected by a middle piece called the isthmus, this gland is located on the front and sides of the trachea just below the larynx;;;;(T4 has four iodine atoms and T3 has 3 iodine atoms but has the same function.. Calcitonin is the third hormone produced by the thyroid gland it is produced by parafollicular cellsT4 and T4 hormones increase energy production and protein synthesis. They increase cellular respiration of glucose and fatty acids, which increase the metabolic rate---that is, energy and heat production The direct stimulus for secretion of T4 and T3 is TSh from the anterior pituitary, Sequences: Hypothalamus lets you know you need more energy so a lack of T3 and T4. That when TRH sent sercetions to TSH so he can put out more T3 and T4 to get the metabolic rate back up so negativefeedback decreases the secretion of TSh from hypothalamus until metabolic rate decreases. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulates secretion of cortisol and related hormones from the adrenal cortex. CRH is produced during any type of physiological stress situation such as injury, diease, exercise, or hypoglycemia. Prolactin initiates and maintains milk production by the mammary glands. The hypothalamus produces both prolactin releasing hormone (PRH) and prolactin inhibiting hormone (PIH). Prolactin levels is not release in high enough levels to produce throughout pregnancy, so when pregnancy is over and the levels of estrogen and progesterone have dropped. The action of a nursing infant reduces PIH, thus the prolactin level rises. Calcitonin is the 3rd Thyroid Gland targets bone tissue and therefore its important during childhood when the accelerated. Calcitonin inhibits

resorption of calcium and phosphate by osteoclasts thereby lowering the blood levels of these minerals and retaining them in bones.
