HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS (taken from webERP) Hardware: There are a many possible configurations that could run this application. The sc ale of the enterprise obviously will have a significant bearing on the final con figuration. The operating system and the database engine chosen will have the largest bearin g on the System requirements. Each client connection to the web server and datab ase engine will also consume RAM so the more connections the larger the RAM requ irement. Similarly disk space required is a function of the volume of customers, suppliers and transactions. Suffice it to say that due to the efficiency of the components of the system the demands on the hardware are exceptionally light by client server application standards. As a guide the minimal installation for up to 50 simultaneous users, using a Lin ux operating system and an Apache web server, could use an entry level server wi th 512Meg RAM a 10 Megabit network would give more than adequate performance 100 Megabit is now entry level. RAID SCSI swappable disks are preferred in any miss ion critical environment where disk access is intensive. Multiple servers with with SMP and load balancing and a separate database server and large amounts of RAM the limit on database size and the number of users is large enough for the most demanding businesses. Software Requirements (taken from webERP) PHP greater than 4.2. The system is therefore operating system independent since PHP can be configured as a CGI module for use on MS IIS or as a module for Apac he under either Windows (NT, 2000 or XP) or Unix/Linux. It has been tested under both windows (NT and XP) and linux. MySQL greater than version 4, with Innodb transactional tables support - foreign key constraints are also required - these were added to Innodb in 2003. Innodb was introduced in 2001 to MySQL and has oracle like functionality - row level lo cking and database transactions with similar speed. (The system could be used wi th Oracle or other database systems, with minimal modification) An example confi guration file my.cnf normally under /usr/local/mysql/var is available in the mys ql documentation to show typical settings for the innodb configuration. The expe cted size of the data is useful although innodb can create an auto-extending dat a file and does so by default as of MySQL 4. All tables are defined as Innodb ta bles as of version 2.8. A web server. Apache - the software serving nearly 70% of all web pages - is rec ommended - but most web servers are supported by PHP in various forms the most p opular choice on windows will likley be MS IIS. If the web server is accessible over the internet ie not just over a LAN then en crypted communications are required. The openssl and mod-ssl module for apache c an be used easily to ensure all data is transmitted in encrypted form.
