Funding Options for Waste Services

The City is seeking public input on five options to fund waste management services provided to single family homes. Three of the five options have a lower rate for households that set out lower volumes of waste for collection. The result of your input will be presented to City Council to help them decide if the current system of funding waste management services should be changed. Edmonton has a proud history of providing one of North Americas most convenient and environmentally sound waste management systems. This integrated system includes: Collection of garbage and recyclables Assisted set out of waste and recyclables for low mobility residents Eco Stations Recycling Depots Big Bin Events Reuse Centre for small items A large items Reuse Area (at Ambleside Eco Station) An environmentally responsible waste processing and disposal system. This includes: A composting facility that converts organics in your garbage into compost Recycling facilities where recyclables are sorted and sent to market The Edmonton Biofuels Facility that once operating in 2013, will convert waste that cant be recycled or composted into methanol. The main reason for our success is the participation of residents in the Citys waste management programs, including the work of hundreds of volunteers.
