Exhaust duct installation

If it is determined that external venting is required to maintain the site temperature requirements, the customer is responsible for supplying and connecting an exhaust duct either externally or to air ducts. The exhaust duct should be a 14 in. (356 mm) (inside diameter) flexible duct to connect to the heat vent adapter (Figure 5-7.) on the press. (Refer to Ensuring adequate ventilation.) NOTE: The heat vent adapter is supplied by Xerox and delivered as part of the press installation. Figure 5-7. Adapter 1

Legend: 1. 14 in. (356 mm) (outside diameter) 2. 8 in. (203.2 mm) (full height)

A flexible duct must be connected to the plenum on the press to allow for the future removal of the plenum and access to the venting components, and to isolate the press from vibrations from the air system. CAUTION: The heat exhaust duct system should be designed in such a way that no outside air will be allowed to flow back into the exhaust ducts whether the print engine is ON or OFF. If outside air flows into the ducts, condensation may occur and damage key electrical components in the print engine.

Venting directly to atmosphere Venting to the atmosphere will be accomplished by direct connection from the plenum on top of the print engine (or for low ceilings, towards the back of the system from the rear of the environmental module). The exhaust from the plenum will be fed to the outside air through a flexible exhaust duct.

Venting to recirculating air ducts Venting to air recirculation ducts at customer site can be used if venting to the atmosphere is impossible (i.e., installation site is not located near an external wall). Ensure that negative pressure is applied to the exhaust duct.

The exhaust duct must be installed before the press can be installed. NOTE: After the flexible duct has been mounted, secure the duct about 8 ft. (2.44 m) above the floor so it will be out of the way of the press during installation and still be within reach. NOTE: A Xerox service engineer will attach the exhaust duct to the heat vent adapter on the press during installation.

Top heat vent installation (standard)

1. Locate the vent location for the press (Figure 5-8. shows the site template with the vent dimension from the right side of the print engine.) The location of the vent should be marked on the floor. 2. Measure 96 in. (2438 mm) above the floor. This is the height of the press and indicates where the flexible duct must connect to the print engine exhaust plenum. 3. Connect the flexible duct to the site air conditioning system. Figure 5-8. Heat vent location Note: The heat vent rectangle measures 238 mm wide and 267 mm in depth. 2 1

Ceiling height

The height of the print engine with the heat vent, not including the adapter, is 8 ft. (2.44 m) tall. The total height dimension of the vent including the adapter is 8 ft. 8 in. (2.7 m). However, when the adapter and the flex connector are attached, there is a 2 inch overlap that makes the total vent height actually 8 ft. 6 in.(2.6 m). The minimum ceiling height above the print engine depends on the routing of the exhaust duct. If the exhaust duct is routed under the ceiling, the minimum ceiling height is 11 ft. (3.35 m) (Figure 59.). The flexible exhaust duct requires approximately 3 ft. (914 mm) to mount to the top of the press. The minimum ceiling height above the rest of the press is 8 ft. 6 in. (2.6 m). NOTE: The same dimensions apply to a press with no exhaust duct attached, and no ceiling hole above the exhaust hole. Figure 5-9. Duct routed under ceiling

Legend: 1. 11 ft. (3.35 m) 2. 8 ft. 6 in. (2.6 m) (duct with adapter attached) 3. Adapter: 6 in. (152 mm) when overlapping duct

If the exhaust duct is routed straight up (Figure 5-10.), the minimum height required for a hard ceiling, e.g., concrete, is 9 ft. 6 in. (2.9 m). However, a dropped ceiling would only need to be approximately 8 ft. 6 in. (2.6 m) as long as a hole can be cut in the dropped ceiling to accommodate the heat vent adapter and there is additional clearance above the dropped ceiling. NOTE: The same dimensions apply to a press with no exhaust duct attached, and with a ceiling hole above the exhaust hole.

Duct location

When locating the flexible duct and/or the rigid duct, ensure that there is room for removal of the heat vent hood. If the height of the rigid duct is less than 11 ft. (3.35 m), the rigid duct should be beside the marking module, not above it. Figure 5-11. Rigid duct beside the marking module 2 4 3 1

If the rigid duct is above the marking module, the minimum distance of the rigid duct above the heat vent hood is 2 ft. (610 mm).

Low ceiling heat vent installation (option)

The Low Ceiling Heat Vent kit includes the modified components needed for routing heat exhaust from the back of the environmental module. A 12 ft. (3.65 m)14 inch flexible duct hose is supplied by the customer and is used to connect the external duct to the heat vent adapter flange. While the location of the external exhaust duct at customer sites will vary, the recommended location is left of the press from the back wall. The recommended distance from the floor to the center line of the external exhaust duct is approximately 90 in. (2.28 m). The recommended minimum distance from the wall or duct to the rear of the print engine is 49 in. (1249 mm). NOTE: Before trimming and installing the flexible duct hose, make sure the length is adequate to connect between the external duct and the heat vent adapter. Allow enough room for the environmental module to open and close without removing the duct. 1. Install the Low Ceiling Heat Vent kit components. 2. Locate the vent location on the environmental module (Figure 5-13.). 3. Connect the flexible duct hose from the external duct to the environmental modules top cover. Figure 5-13. shows the recommended placement of the external duct and flexible duct hose when using the low ceiling heat vent.

Ensuring adequate ventilation

For proper heat vent function at 60 Hz, the pressure at the adapter pressure tap should not exceed +0.25 inches (6.35 mm) of water. For proper heat vent function at 50 Hz, the pressure at the adapter pressure tap should not exceed +0.03 inches (0.762 mm) of water. If higher pressure exists, additional external venting is required. This additional venting must be provided by the customer. NOTE: The customer should check with HVAC personnel to ensure that the site venting system is able to meet the specified pressure at the heat vent adapter pressure tap without creating back pressure in the press. NOTE: The Xerox supplied heat vent adapter has a pressure tap that enables the service representative to check back-pressure to the press. As part of the installation procedure, the service representative will verify that the HVAC system is functioning properly. If the service representative finds that the back-pressure at the adapter pressure tap exceeds specification, he/she will notify the customer and the Analyst. The customer will need to have the HVAC contractor make the modifications necessary to bring the back-pressure into specification before installation can be completed. The maximum pressure drop across a 14 in. (356mm) diameter

hose from the exit of the heat vent adapter to the room exhaust should be 0.60 in. wg (water gage) for the 60 Hz installation and 0.27 in. wg for the 50 Hz installation. Any use of a chimney cap (e.g. turbine vents, shown in Figure 514.) of any sort should be designed for the right airflow and should not impede the heat vent system. Figure 5-14. Turbine vent
