Tech ECE/EIE Project Report

EC499/EI499 Major Project Work

Instructions & Guidelines:

1. The content of the report is as advised by the guide 2. Font Text Font Size Face Content Times New Roman 12 pts Regular Section Headings Times New Roman 12 pts Bold CAPITAL Section Times New Roman 12 pts Regular Sub-Headings CAPITAL 3. Spacing should be 1.5 pts. 4. Margin 1.5 on LEFT AND 1 ON all OTHER sides. 5. Print only on one side of the paper (A4 size) 6. Adjust the size of the figures in the report to uniform size. A figure in half a page will be better. Put only high resolution figures. Avoid pasting from pdf documents 7. The maximum number of pages in the report should not exceed 75 (STRICTLY) in any case. 8. The color of the report should be blue (colour code 7). Sample copy is available with department office/ library. The report should only be soft bound. 9. References should be in IEEE format 10. LIST OF TABLES / FIGURES / ABBREVIATIONS/SYMBOLS ARE TO BE INCLUDED AS REQUIRED 11. The figures and tables should be numbered chapter wise. Eg: Fig 2.1, Table 2.3, etc. In figures labels and numbers inside the figure(x axis and y axis) should be legible. 12. Align the figure title at the bottom and table title on the top. Figure titles should be in italics. 13. Avoid appendix / annexures as far as possible. 14. Number of copies will be intimated later Page numbering The preliminary parts are numbered in roman numerals (i, ii, etc). The first page of the first chapter (Introduction) onwards will be numbered in Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3 etc. Numbering sections and subsections: A word on numbering scheme used in the thesis is in order. It is common practice to use decimal numbering in the report. If the chapter number is 2, the section numbers will be 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc.

The subsections in section 2.2 will be numbered as 2.2.1, 2.2.2 etc. Unless essential, it is not necessary to use numbers to lower levels than three stages. Headings of paragraphs below the subsections may be in regular face and in sentence case. Numbering figures and tables: It is useful and convenient to number the figures also chapter-wise. The figures in chapter 4 will be numbered Fig. 4.1, Fig. 4.2 etc. This helps you in assembling the figures and putting it in proper order. Similarly, the tables also numbered as Table 4.1 Table 4.2 etc. Usually the figure captions are written below the figure and table captions on top of the table. All figures should have proper description by legends, title of the axes and any other information to make the figures self-explanatory. Figures in colour are not essential, but if it is essential, can be given. If used, all copies submitted should have figures in colour. Numbering equations: The same numbering scheme can be used for equations also. Only thing to be remembered is that references to the figures are made like Fig 4.2 and equations as Eqn(5.8) and tables as Table 3.8. Numbering references: References can be numbered as 1, 2, 3 etc in the order in which they are referred to in the body of the thesis in IEEE format. A typical reference in the body of the report will appear as as stated in [3] or in [3] [5] etc. If there are some appendices, these can be numbered as A1, A2, A3 etc. The equations in these appendices can be numbered as (A1.1), (A2.3) etc. For clarifications contact Mr. N. Mohankumar, Asst. Prof (ECE)

Project report completed in all respects (including endorsments from respective project advisor and group coordinator and chairperson) must be submitted to ECE office before 16th April 2012 (11.00AM)

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

Introduction should cover a brief review of previous work done and their short comings followed by the proposed improvements. Last part of introduction should give an overview of subsequent chapters.

Guidelines for other chapters Subsequent chapters should give a logically sequenced flow to your work. The background study such as theory behind the work can be kept a minimum (for eg. If you are doing a VLSI project, description of VHDL should not be a main chapter).Last chapter should contain a summary of the work including the detailed inferences and should give a detailed direction for possible future work.
