DEPUTIES SIEZE 500 LBS OF MARIJUANA DURING INTERDICTION OPERATION WITH THE HELP OF ACTOR STEVEN SEAGAL
(Maricopa County, AZ) Last night, the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office Drug Interdiction Unit concluded a two-day operation in which three illegal aliens were intercepted transporting about 500 pounds of marijuana from Mexico into the United States. The drugs had an approximate street value of $250,000. The suspects were located in the desert of the I-8 corridor of Maricopa County by Sheriffs deputies who say that the drugs seized were destined for east coast cities. One suspect, Jesus Lleyva Castillo, an illegal immigrant, was taken into custody by Sheriffs deputies and booked on several drug related charges. He has an extensive criminal history in Arizona. Two others were detained, questioned and turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol. The investigation is continuing. Sheriff Joe Arpaio says part of the drug interdiction team involved in this arrest was Special Deputy and Actor Steven Seagal. Seagal will be featured tonight at 6PM and 9PM Pacific time on CNNs Piers Morgan Show talking about his law enforcement experiences here at the Sheriffs Office and his continuing battle at the border. Sheriff Arpaio says he is in the planning stages of a major crime suppression operation to fight drug trafficking and illegal immigration from Mexico in the very near future.
