GENDER AND AGE PERSPECTIVE: A STUDY AMONG EMPLOYEES IN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRIES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO MADURAI

ABSTRACT
Gender and age are one of the factors in increasing the job performance in an organization. The personal characters are important in accessing the employees potential whether he or she is capable of carry out his job or not. The success of the organization highly depends on the employees. Managers have to look upon the job performance of the employees and make him satisfied in his job. However certain factors may bring dissatisfaction to the manager by viewing the performance of his employees. Some employees may not contribute to the achievement-oriented task of the organization. This may be due to their age difference between the subordinates or may be a gender problem. This paper focus on the employees in the automotive industries and how the organization makes the employees feel satisfied and make the organization improved in their performance by analyzing employees gender and age.

1. INTRODUCTION
Age and gender is an important perspective in building an organization more efficient and effective in achieving the objective of the organization. Automotive industries are provided with different age group of employees. It will be difficult for manager to make the employees work together in satisfying the expectation of the organization. Employees must be encouraged to maintain an ethical behavior in the organization. The workforce must have to maintain in a uniform manner among the employees. It enriches the production and increases the profit to the organization. The gender issues of male and female employees are to be treated in a fair manner. Automotive industries are provided with fewer female employees. The automotive industries are provided with heavy machinery and it will be handled mostly by male employees. The gender is an important issue to deal with as it shows the decent behavior between the male and female employees. Age and Gender: A source of emotion and moods Emotions and moods can occur between employees of different ages and gender. The most common belief is that women are more emotion than men. Apart from anger, emotional differences are also due to different ways men and women have been socialized. Male employees are taught to be tough and brave. Employees 215

of different age groups have different behaviors and it will create a sense of chaos among the managers to deal with the problems. Emotions are more likely to be caused by a specific event. It may also be more action oriented and may lead us to immediate action. The source of emotion mostly occurs between a male and female employee. Men are mostly taught to be tough and brave showing inconsistent with this image. Moods may some times bring a positive or negative effect on an individual.

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


The following are the specific objectives of the

study.
To study the work values among different age

groups. To study the religion among different age groups To study the work values among male and female employees.

3. LITERATURE REVIEW
