Step (1): Create Static Analysis and Connections


Load the Catia document CATGASLandingGear_1.CATProduct

The landing gear assembly is opened in the Assembly Design Workbench.

1. Apply materials. a. Click on the Apply Material button in the Standard toolbar.

b. In the Metal folder, select the Titanium icon. c. Click on Ring Part representation in features tree.

d. Click on Apply Material button in the material library box. You can see that Titanium is apllied on both rings. e. Do the same thing with Steel for LandingGearLeg part and Flanges part. f. For the last part, instead of clicking on Apply Material button, click OK.

2. Open the GAS Workbench and create a static analysis of the landing gear.

a. Click on shortcut icon. b. Click on Generative Structural Analysis button.

Select Static Analysis.

3. Apply Fastened Connections. d. Click on Fastened Connection icon in Mesh Specification toolbar.

a. Select surface contact between one of the Rings and LandingGearLeg.

b. Click OK. c. Repeat same procedure for the other ring.

Fastened connection symbols appear on the model and in the tree.

4. Apply slider connections. a. Click on Slider Connection icon in Mesh Specification toolbar.

b. Select a Ring-Flange Surface contact.

c. Click OK. d. Repeat same procedure for the other Ring-Flange Surface contact.

Slider connection symbols appear on the model and in the tree.

5. Save the analysis document under the name CATGASLandingGear_1.CATAnalysis. a. Click on Save Management in the File menu

Step (2): Static Analysis


1. Apply Clamps to flanges. a. Click on Clamp icon in Restrain toolbar

b. Select drilled surface of both flanges.

c. Click OK. d. Click on Restraint icon in Restrain toolbar

e. Select both outer faces of legs horizontal cylindric part.

Restrain box translations in the faces plain, in order to retrain the leg rotation around x axis (only translation degrees are available, the rotation degrees are relevant only for virtual part handler points). g. Click OK. 2. Apply pressure to bottom part of cylinder leg. a. Click on Pressure icon in Loads toolbar.

b. Select botom face of landing gear leg.

c.

Click OK.

3. Create a Von Mises Stress Image. a. Check features tree elements.

d. Click Search Image Extrema button in Analysis Tools toolbar.

e. Request maximum of 2 global values.

Maximum stress node is localized.

Step (3): Frequency Analysis


1. Create a Frequency Analysis from Static one. a. Click on Frequency Case button in Insert menu.

b. Click on Reference in Retrains option and select Retraints.1 from Static Analysis.

c. Click OK A Frequency Analysis appears with the same Retraints as the Static Case wich is now disactivated.

2. Frequency Computation. a. Compute

b. Click on Displacements icon in Image toolbar.

c. Double click on the image symbol, or directly on the image. d. Select AVERAGE-ISO in the Visu folder. e. Select Iso smooth in Iso/Fringe option.

Select NORMALIZE in the Criteria folder (otherwise with VECTOR you display only a given component of the displacement vectors, and you select this component in the Filters folder).

g. Select 4th dynamic mode in the Modes folder of the Image Editor box, and click OK.

The result should look like this.

h. Click on the Animate icon in the Analysis Tools toolbar.

Click on the Deformation Scale Factor icon in the Analysis Tools toolbar.

Increase deformation magnitude, and zoom on ring-flange connection.

Load the Catia document CATGAS_Engine.CATProduct 1. Enter Analysis Workbench.

2. Select Frequency Analysis

3. Create Connections between Parts. a. Fastened Connections between Pistons and Pins.

b. Fastened Connections between Pins and Rods.

Select Frequency number 8.

d. Double click on the Color Scale in order to display the Color Map Editor.

e. Set a Histogram Distribution with 30 colors.

Load the Catia document CATGAS_contact.CATProduct 1. Open the GPS workbench. a. Click Generative Structural Analysis icon.

b. Select Static Analysis and click OK

2. First computation. a. Click on Pressure Fitting icon

b. Modify the overlap magnitude and enter 1e-005mm c. Select the Surface Connection and click OK

The pressure appears in the tree.

d. Click on Clamp icon

e. Select the inner surface and click OK

Click Compute icon and select all

g. Click on Stress Von Mises icon.

a. Double-click on OCTREE Tetrahedron Mesh.2 : DemoRod.1 in the tree

d. Enter a mesh size of 2 mm e. Select the Rod inner surface between the two parts and click OK
