Porqu cruzar el Holstein? CLIMAS TEMPLADOS Heterosis (6.5% produccin, 10% fitness) En algunas poblaciones en pureza los niveles de consanguinidad empiezan a ser altos. La fertilidad ha descendido como consecuencia de la fuerte seleccin por produccin y por el aumento de la consanguinidad. La produccin en sistemas semi-intensivos (low input) u orgnicos pueden beneficiarse de la reduccin esperada en tratamientos sanitarios o del mejor aprovechamiento en pastoreo de los animales cruzados. CLIMAS CLIDOS-HUMEDOS Estrs por calor afecta la produccin y la reproduccin de razas no adaptadas Escasa resistencia a parsitos de razas europeas seleccionadas

Prediccin genmica:
1. Obtener genotipos y fenotipos de un nmero suficiente de animales (POBLACIN DE REFERENCIA, normalmente toros). 2. Estimar el valor gentico de cada SNP sobre los caracteres de inters en la poblacin de referencia.

Cambios esperables en los esquemas de seleccin en ganado vacuno lechero (Boichard, 2010):
1. Desaparicin del test de progenie en cuanto a terminar con la difusin de toros slo tras los resultados de su primera tanda de hijas. - Se obtendrn EBV (Estimated Breeding Values) de la informacin de progenie pero despus de que el toro se ha usado. - EBVs con mucha precisin - Es crucial mantener el control de rendimientos (fenotipos) 2. Uso de toros jvenes con varios miles de inseminaciones 3. Muchos ms toros que los toros de lite actuales pero menos que el nmero actual de toros en prueba (50%??) 4. Poco tiempo de uso de los toros poco stock de semen 5. Mayor precisin de las evaluaciones de hembras, que ser similar a la de los machos fuerte intensidad de seleccin de las madres de toros o de vacas. Refuerzo del trasplante de embriones y sexado del semen.
