You can obtain a copy of the fire safety documents.

Was there a high concentration of fire extinguishers located anywhere in the school?

How many fire exits are their in the school? Were all of the fire door open? (i.e. none were locked)

Can you find out how long it usually takes to evacuate the school? What are the schools evacuation procedures, for example are pupils registered where do they line up?

Have there been any recorded fires in the school, if so what happened? What other fire safety equipment is located within the school? Are the emergency services contacted automatically or does a member of staff need to phone the emergency services? Can you explain how an automatic fire safety system works?

All around school, I found 73 fire extinguishers. Looking in classrooms that were open and only peeked through the window of classrooms that were locked. Hall (x1), sixth form room (x2), science block (x15), maths block (x3), sport centre (x7), link (x3), D.T (x6), Ground floor main block (x17), first floor (x6), second floor (x5), reception (x5). In the science block, there were 15 extinguishers, in each classroom and in the hall ways. The sport centre had 7 extinguishers, in the weights room, old gym, sport centre and swimming pool. Altogether, I found 32 fire exits. These were found in some classrooms, sport centre and corridors. Most of the fire exits were open and accessible. In the science block, the roof access was padlocked. Some of the fire exits we either left open of locked with a key. Usually, it would take teachers and pupils about 5 to 6 minutes to meet at the assembly point. When fire bell goes, leave all bags and make way to fire assembly point. Shut doors behind you. Go to fire assembly point (bottom playground) and line up in tutors and in alphabetical order. Registers are taken by tutors. Heads of House go to tutors for registers and make sure no one is missing. Few years back, the KS4 toilets were set on fire. A toilet paper holder was set alight. Fire doors, fire alarms, fire extinguishers (CO2, water, foam), fire blankets, fire hose. The teachers have to ring up.

They are connected to sensors. Once you break the glass, it closes the circuit which connects to a relay and then turns on the fire alarm.

Did you find any fire safety hazards in the school, if so where are they and what do they consist of? How could these fire safety hazards be remedied? Overall how safe from a fire accident do you think the school is?

1. There are no smoke detectors in school. 2. When there is a fire, a member of staff has to stay behind and ring the emergency services. 1. Introduce some to the school. 2. Use a mobile outside at the fire assembly point. VERY SAFE
