GENERAL PROVISIONS Contractor shall provide and maintain environmental protection defined herein. Contractor's operation shall comply with all Saudi Arabian, and local laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to environmental protection. Contractor shall only use equipment which has factory-installed antipollution and noise control devices which are fully operational. PROTECTION OF NATURAL RESOURCES General: Requirements of this article are in addition to the Special Condition "Protection of Property." It is intended that the natural resources within the boundaries and outside the limits of the work site shall be preserved in their existing condition or be restored to an equivalent of the existing condition, as approved by MARAFIQ, upon completion of the work. Contractor shall confine its on-site construction activities to areas defined by the contract.

Protection of Existing Waterways and Highways: Waste of any kind shall not be dumped into or be allowed to fall into the sea, onto adjacent banks, or onto highways. This shall include paint splatters and spillage during painting operations. Care shall be taken to prevent damage and injury to personnel, vessels, and vehicles using waterways, highways, or pedestrian ways. Devices shall be provided and maintained by Contractor as required to prevent such occurrences. Any material or items falling into the sea, onto adjacent banks, or onto highways shall be promptly removed. Land Resources: 1. Except in areas indicated to be cleared, Contractor shall not remove, cut, deface, injure, or destroy vegetation without special permission from MARAFIQ. Contractor shall submit a plan for protecting existing vegetation that is to remain and that may be injured, bruised, defaced, and otherwise damaged by construction operations. Rocks that are displaced into uncleared areas shall be removed. Monuments, markers, and works of art shall be protected prior to the start of operations. A preconstruction survey including photographs shall be accomplished by Contractor and a copy of survey furnished to MARAFIQ. Repair and Restoration: All trees and other landscape features scarred or damaged by Contractor's equipment and operations shall be repaired and restored to their original condition in accordance with the requirements of Section 01030 and at no cost to MARAFIQ.

Water Resources: 1. Temporary culverts or bridge structures shall be removed, if used, upon completion of the project and the area repaired in conformance with its original condition and as specified herein before. At all times, measures shall be taken to prevent oil or other hazardous substances from entering the ground, drainage areas, and local bodies of water.

Fish and Wildlife Resources: Contractor shall not alter water flows and otherwise disturb native habitat adjacent to the work site.

Protection of Existing Wetlands and Watercourses:

Work shall be planned, scheduled, and undertaken in a manner that will ensure the protection and preservation of existing wetlands and watercourses. Work in and around wetlands and watercourses shall be undertaken in a manner that will prevent significant impact upon public health, safety, and welfare.

EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES Burn-off of ground cover will not be permitted. Borrow areas shall be managed and controlled to prevent sediment from entering nearby water. Restoration of the area, including areas outside the borrow area disturbed by the borrow and haul operations shall include grading, replacement of topsoil, and establishment of permanent vegetation cover. The vertical sides of the borrow pit shall be uniformly graded to a slope of not more than 30 degrees. The bottom of borrow pits shall be uniformly graded to provide a flat bottom and shall be drained by outfall ditches or other suitable measures approved by MARAFIQ. Reduction of Exposure of Unprotected Erodible Soils: Side slopes and backslopes shall be protected immediately upon completion of rough grading. Operations in connection with earthwork shall be planned and conducted in such a manner as to minimize the duration of exposure of unprotected soils. Temporary Protection of Erodible Soils: 1. Such methods as necessary shall be used to effectively prevent erosion and control sedimentation. Temporary protection shall be provided on all side slopes and back slopes as soon as rough grading is completed or sufficient soil is exposed to require protection to prevent erosion.

CONTROL AND DISPOSAL OF CHEMICAL WASTE Chemical waste shall be stored in NFPA approved corrosion resistant containers with lids, removed from the project site, and disposed of as necessary, but not less frequently than monthly. Disposal of chemical waste shall be in accordance with standard established practices as approved by the Royal Commission.

Fueling and lubricating of equipment and motor vehicles on-site shall be conducted in a manner that affords the maximum protection against

spills and evaporation. Lubricants to be discarded, including burned oil, shall be disposed of in accordance with approved procedures meeting local regulations. For oil and hazardous material spills that may be large enough to violate local regulations, MARAFIQ shall be notified immediately. 1.6 A. WASTE DISPOSAL Contractor shall transport all waste off the work site and accomplish disposal in compliance with local requirements. Contractor shall obtain a permit prior to transporting any material off the work site. Waste materials shall not be burned on the work site. 1. Waste shall be picked up and placed in containers that shall be emptied on a regular schedule. Handling and disposal shall be so conducted as to prevent contamination of the work site and other areas. Contractor shall transport the waste to a disposal area as designated by MARAFIQ. Sewage shall be disposed of through connection to Madinat Yanbu Al- Sinaiyah sanitary sewage system. Where such system is not available, chemical toilets or comparably effective units shall be used with waste periodically emptied. Provisions shall be included for pest control, masking or elimination of odors.

DISPOSAL OF EXCESS EXCAVATED MATERIALS Excess excavated material that is approved by MARAFIQ as clean fill shall be disposed of on MARAFIQ property, either at a soil disposal area identified on the drawings, or at a soil disposal area as designated by the Royal Commission. Excess excavated material that is not approved by MARAFIQ as suitable fill shall be disposed of as waste material. DUST CONTROL Dust shall be kept down at all times including nonworking hours, weekends, and holidays. Soil at the site, haul roads, and other areas disturbed by Contractor's operations and materials stockpiled for the project shall be treated with dust suppressors or covered to control dust. No dry power brooming shall be permitted. Vacuuming, wet mopping, wet sweeping, or wet power brooming shall be used instead. Air blowing is permitted only for cleaning off nonparticle debris, such as that from reinforcing bars. Sandblasting shall not be permitted except as otherwise specified elsewhere. Only wet cutting of concrete block, concrete, and asphalt will be permitted.

Contractor shall inspect all vehicles for dirt prior to their leaving the construction site. Dirt, soil, and rubble likely to be dislodged during transit shall be removed from the trucks and other vehicles prior to leaving site. Contractor shall ensure that equipment transporting materials, to and from the site, that may become airborne is covered. NOISE CONTROL AND USE OF EXPLOSIVES Contractor shall comply with the General Conditions Article entitled Use of Explosives. No blasting or use of explosives shall be permitted without written permission of MARAFIQ and then only during the designated approved times. Except as otherwise approved by MARAFIQ, construction work on this project will not be permitted between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. in areas adjacent to residential neighborhoods.
