Health: on Friday 20 April the Canowindra Community Health Centre will be holding a Falls Prevention Promotion at Canowindra Pharmacy. The promotion will offer information & advice on how to prevent falls from happening. Facilities: The Canowindra Business Chamber has been notified by the Premier Mr Barry OFarrell that its funding application for new toilets in Memorial Park has been successful. The Chamber made application to the NSW Government Community Building Partnership program for $60,000 in funding. President of the Canowindra Business Chamber, David Cullane said, "Canowindra was fortunate indeed to receive this funding from a total amount of $400,000 for the whole of the Dubbo electorate, & provision of new toilets including a disabled facility would be a great benefit to Canowindra. Since the recent upgrade, many more people use Memorial Park & decent toilets are essential." The next Business Chamber meeting is 7pm Wednesday 18 April at CWA Rooms Blatchford Street. Prizes include itune vouchers, Justice Crew t-shirts, board games & chocolates. Finalists in the short film competition will be screened between 11am & 2pm on Saturday. The winning film will receive $75, with $50 for second & $25 for third, while the peoples choice winner will also receive $25. Entry is free & everyone is welcome to attend, Mrs Selwood said. MOYNE'S ANNUAL FETE Moyne Aged Care Plus will be holding their Annual Fete in the grounds of the facility commencing from 11am Saturday 5 May. In previous years the Fete has raised thousands of dollars which ALL stays at Moyne. Monies raised at the fete go towards purchasing new resources necessary for the enjoyment and comfort of the residents. Without the involvement and support of the local and wider community the fete would not be this successful year after year. Residents have been very busy making craft items and assisting where possible to help get ready for our big day. This year there will be white elephant, fruit and vegetable, Lions club barbeque, Devonshire tea, Country Charms Craft, plants, lamingtons, jams and relishes and kids activities including face painting, pick a prize and a guessing competition. 11am children from Staceys Singing School will entertain you 11.30am Salvation Army and Orange Town bands will perform 12pm auction of donated items such as a load of wood, zoo vouchers, balloon flight, holiday accommodation, Sydney Harbour cruise, gift vouchers, massage from Jo Bell and many more items will be held, so be there to grab a bargain. The Antique Car Club from Canowindra and Cowra will be here on the day for you to wander down memory lane and take the opportunity to have a look at the old cars.

The Moorbel Markets are also held on this day so why not visit both the Markets and the Fete and have a lovely day out and about supporting your local community. INCITEC PIVOT CHIEF TO ATTEND MEETING The announcement by Incitec Pivot that there will be no anhydrous ammonia available to farmers in Central and Southern NSW this cropping season has been met with anger and consternation by Classes at the Primary School Hall commencing the farming community and their suppliers. Salmon Leek & Potato Pie

250g Tasmanian Atlantic salmon fillets 2 tbsp olive oil 2 leeks, sliced thinly 4 potatoes, par-boiled & diced 250g of ricotta cheese 1 egg, lightly beaten 2 sheets of ready-rolled puff pastry Egg to wash pastry Pre-heat oven to 220C. Fry leeks lightly in oil over gentle heat until soft. Combine ricotta, egg, salt & pepper, roughly chopped salmon with skin removed, leeks & potato. Gently push a sheet of pastry into a greased baking dish. Spoon in mixture, brush edges with egg wash & top with second sheet. Press down edges with fingers, cut vents & brush top with egg wash. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until light brown, serve immediately.

PYTHONS NEWS After the fantastic Twilight Food & Wine market and the spectacular Balloon Glow, the Pythons kicked off their 2012 campaign against the reigning premiers Condobolin. In front of a record breaking crowd the Pythons and the Condo Rams produced a great game of rugby. Condo kicked two early penalty goals which took them to a 6-0 lead. The Pythons had several chances to score tries but some dodgy ball handling put an end to that. Then late in the first half Clint Oborn ran onto a good ball and scored our first try. The second half was a display of great defence from both sides and Tom Abbott kicked a goal to put us in front 10-6. Both sides continued to attack to no avail and the final score was 10-6. Points: 3 to Tom Abbott; 2 to William Ryan; 1 each to Daniel Williams & Scott Gill; Players' Player: Scott Gill. A great night was had by all and the win to the Pythons just capped it off. Thanks to the Canowindra Challenge committee for letting the Pythons be part of a fantastic event. CANOWINDRA CLAY TARGET CLUB On Sunday 15 April Gun Club had 30 shooters from Dubbo, Cowra, Orange, Boorowa, Yass, Bathurst and Canowindra. The weather was fine, we had a couple of shoot offs, a few locals came out for a look and it was a great afternoon. I read with interest ANOTHER letter expressing dissatisfaction with the Cabonne Shire Council this one about a $38,000 garden with no maintenance. I read with disgust the planned spending on the swimming pool, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and other disbursements of no useful purpose. Talk about misplaced priority! Chuck money at incidentals, appear to be doing something while not actually doing anything. I was pleased to read about the retirement of the general manager a man who squirreled away millions of dollars to set up a piggy bank for Council, while the infrastructure of the municipality was managed into disrepair. I note residents near Orange have petitioned to become part of the Orange municipality. Residents of Eugowra want to join Forbes, while many Canowindra residents would like to be part of Cowra Shire. I wrote to the Cabonne Shire in 2011 about the road to Forbes, a road in such disrepair it is dangerous. The Cabonne GM replied, saying it was an RTA road, not a Council matter. My further communication with the Minister for Roads confirmed Cabonne Shire is the maintenance contractor for that road, and block funding has been provided for its maintenance. Is that the money in the squirrel fund? Being local for 10 years, although not resident in Canowindra, I regularly come into Canowindra and transit through to Forbes. It is becoming an increasingly scruffy little town, not the fault of the well-intentioned residents, but soley the fault of an incompetent Council. The entrances to the town are a drivers nightmare and a civic embarrassment. The councillors should hang their heads in shame when they look at the town, at best the outcome of a failed experiment in policy direction, at worst it is administrative incompetence. With the resignation of the Cabonne GM should come the resignation of the councillors, the appointment of a professional administrator, and the creation of a municipal plan to restore some decency into a grossly mismanaged local area. Failing that, an act of decency would be for all current councillors to stand down at the next election. Stephen Tamplin, Pride of Oak Canowindra.
EYEWATCH, YOU WATCH...WE ALL WATCH! Do you care for the community? Care about making a difference and keeping our community safe? Canobolas Police are looking for members to join the 'South Canobolas Neighbourhood Watch' group. The group will cover the areas of Eugowra, Canowindra, Gooloogong, Cowra & Woodstock. This group consists of a Precinct Co-ordinator, Administrators and Members, and will liaise with local police regularly and post crime prevention information on the page. Project eyewatch is a platform for the delivery of information to the community of NSW utilising Facebook as the network tool to create - 21st Century Neighbourhood Watch Communities. Project eyewatch will give community members the opportunity to participate in active crime prevention activities on line in their own homes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Chief Inspector Maxwell of Project eyewatch states, "Neighbourhood Watch is about local communities and local police working together to solve local problems and identify solutions". "It really gets back to the core of democratic policing where the community and the police work together because, after all, police are a part of the community." Chief Inspector Maxwell said, "Neighbourhood Watch had been weakening in recent years but Project Eyewatch had given it a new lease on life". First Game for Tigers a Winner The Tigers travelled to Peak Hill on Saturday to play a very strong first game for the season. First grade coming out with a convincing win of 46-26. Peak Hill didnt look like standing a chance with an 18-0 lead from the Tigers after the first eight minutes. Brendan Traves was a catching force on the day, taking numerous high balls. Peter Pita once again stood out to be a main force behind the side and was backed convincingly by the return of Reweti Kaire. Witts played for Canowindra back in 2010 before injury sent him back to New Zealand: but he couldnt stay away. The Kiwi Combination will be one to watch throughout the year. Well done Tigers on your first game. The Youth League played hard against the Peak Hill side, only to go down 26-14. With an unfortunate case of not having all of their players for the first game they still gave it their all and tried to fight back, only to find Peak Hills numbers too strong. As the year progresses hopefully the side will have the numbers to show their true form. Well done all for the start of the Tigers year, and thanks to all that could travel. The Tigresses had the bye, but get to strut their stuff this weekend. This weekend the Tigers have their first home game against Condobolin on Saturday, with all three grades to play. Kickoff will be at 12.40pm with the Tigresses to take the field followed by Youth League from 1.40pm, and First Grade from 3pm. The Tigers will get the chance to head to their major sponsor after their first home game of the year, as it coincides with the doors of the newly renovated Services Club opening after the devastating fire in 2010! Another action packed weekend coming up in Canowindra.
