1)
a)

Bubble Point Temperature is the temperature at which the first

bubbles are formed in a mixture.
The bubble point temperature for this mixture is74o C.
The Dew Point is the temperature to which a volume of
humid air must be cooled, at constant barometric pressure,
for water vapour to condense into liquid water.
The Dew point temperature for this mixture is74o C.
Vapour condenses at the same temperature at the liquid boils.
Hence the bubble point temperature and dew point temperature

are equal.
Vapour Fraction for the product stream is 1.
The vapour product composition isethanol 0.622 and water
0.378.
The liquid product composition is ethanol 0.400 and water
0.600.
The Energy Rate required to be provided to the heater is 0.001
MM kcal / hour.
The Thermodynamic Model used in this case is UNIQUACK.

b)
Also the sirens will only go on if the mole fraction in the liquid phase
decreases. So Mr.Azzie can steal the some liquid composition but has to
get that replaced. This can be done by either increasing the pressure
or decreasing the temperature.

2)

Vapour fraction of the feed entering the distillation column is 1.

Compositions of the vapour streams are --- Hydrogen 0.053,
Methane 0.946, Benzene 0.028, and Toulene 0.0032
Compositions of liquid streams are --- Hydrogen 0.0002, Methane
0.025, Benzene 0.734 and Toulene 0.242.

3)

This problem cannot be solved in ASPEN PLUS as Aspen can return us

the outputs to given inputs but to get an input from a given output is not
possible in Aspen Plus as is the case in the 3rd question.
4)

5)
The following table shows quantities of each stream without using sensitivity
analysis.

7)
A theoretical plate or tray in many separation processes is a hypothetical
zone or stage in which two phases, such as the liquid and vapour phases of a
substance, establish an equilibrium with each other. Such equilibrium stages
may also be referred to as an equilibrium stage, ideal stage, or a
theoretical tray. The performance of many separation processes depends on
having a series of equilibrium stages and is enhanced by providing more such
stages. In other words, having more theoretical plates increases the efficacy of
the separation process be it either a distillation, absorption,
chromatographic, adsorption or similar process.

The following pictures show some examples of trays used in distillation.

The following table shows properties like temperature, pressure, heat duty,
compositions, etc.
