MKTG1071 STRATEGIC MARKETING Questions Executive Summary---Notes and Marketing Guide Semester 1, 2012

Following in class group presentation of case, a number of students who have been selected at that start of the semester will pose questions of the presenting group. These students are not part of any defined group but will be selected randomly. Their task is to imagine that they are the board of the company and they are reviewing the proposed marketing strategy. Therefore, they will need to assess whether the proposed solution presented by the group can achieve the marketing goals and objectives of the organisation. In order to do this, those asking the questions will need to be familiar with the case and have developed their own insight as to the: objectives of the company problem faced justification of problem proposed solution justification for solution

Each individual nominated to ask questions of the presenting team will submit a two page (maximum) executive summary see template below. This will form part of your 10% class participation. It will be necessary to prepare multiple questions for each of the above areas. This will ensure that you have questions to ask should the presenting team adequately covers a specific topic area. In addition, it is possible that one of the other students asking questions of the presenting group may ask the same/similar question you had planned to ask. It is suggested that at least five (5) questions be prepared.
Submission of Executive Summary Electronic copy to be uploaded to blackboard (Grade Centre) and Turnitin prior to presentation. Physical copy to be handed to lecturer following group presentation. Must include marking criteria see below. You are able to write notes on your executive summary during the student presentation and should new questions occur to you during the presentation. If you develop new questions you need to write the question and include a two or three dot points as to why you asked the question. Format The formatting is prescriptive and you must adhere to it. The space limitations will force you to be succinct and concise. Length: 500 words maximum Font: Times New Roman 11 point Spacing: 1. 5 lines Page Margins: 2.5cm Referencing: Harvard or APA style (must you used when drawing on theory to frame your question). Writing Style: Business writing should always be in third person. Aim to be as succinct and concise as possible. This is not an essay. Use dot points or tables where appropriate.

Poor N 10% Introduction: A short description of why asking the right questions is important. 40% Section 1 Proposed Questions Based on the information in the case study, you should specify a set of strategically relevant questions in order to a) better understand the underlying issues/problems and b) how to potentially overcome those issues/problems and c) make a strategic choice d) most importantly, to be able to challenge the presenting student group and their suggestions 40% Section 2 Justification of Proposed Question You should clearly outline why these questions are important. In what why do they help you to better understand the issues/problems, come up with better solutions, make more informed choices, and thereby increase the likelihood of success? What if these questions remain unanswered? 10% Conclusion A short summary in how far your questions help the strategic decision maker towards a better choice.
