com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thomas J. Sray: Spokesperson For National Mobility Awareness Month PITTSBURGH, PA. (Mar. 28. 2012) Thomas Sray, despite being disabled, remains very active among his community. He has been named spokesperson for National Mobility Awareness Month, the new May celebration that encourages people with disabilities to live active, mobile lifestyles. The goal is to develop awareness for Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles as well as the many other transportation solutions that can improve the quality of life for veterans, seniors and those with disabilities. Sray, who sustained a C6-7 quad injury in 1991 due to a construction fall, is in his 19th year as South Fayette Commissioner. He has made almost everything in his Township, including four parks, wheelchair accessible. Sray also started a hunting club about 10 years ago, and still continues to engage more members each year. Sray assists the Buoniconti Fund Pittsburgh chapter for the past 12 years in attempt to help raise money for spinal cord research. With the array of every day challenges, Sray is content and happy to help his community. I am still in a wheelchair, but I am very active. In the midst of his struggles, Sray mentioned how he counts on his family, Ive been married 34 years, and my family means a lot to me, Sray said. They keep me going. Excited to pave the way for two arriving grandchildren, keeps an everlasting smile on his face. Looks like Im going to have a lot of buddies! National Mobility Awareness Month will be an annual celebration in the U.S. and Canada that will take place in the month of May beginning this year, and will encourage the 18 million people who are struggling with or overcoming mobility challenges to share their stories. Both written and videotaped submissions will be accepted on the National Mobility Awareness Month website from March 18-May 13. The voting period is open to the public April 1-May 13 that will help determine the top winners, who will receive a new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle on national television, customized to fit their specific needs.
