With SIMATIC WinCC perfect , process visualization stands for complete operating and monitoring functionality under Windows 2000 and XP for all industry segments ranging from simple single-user systems through to distributed multi-user systems with redundant servers and the structure of a cross-site solution including Web clients on an Intranet or the Internet. The WinCC basic software is the core of a large number of different applications. Based on open programming interfaces, a number of WinCC options (by Siemens A&D) have been developed as well as WinCC add-ons (by Siemens internal and external partners).

SIMATIC WinCC V6.0 SP2 Expansions for Archiving

SIMATIC WinCC is not only universally scalable, but is also possesses integrated archiving functions on the basis of the Microsoft SQL Server 2000. This opens up many possibilities to the user ranging from a high-performance archiving of current process data and events, a long-term archiving with high data compression and backup function up to a central information hub in the form of a company-wide Historian server. The WinCC basic system already provides 512 archive tags. With Powerpacks, this number can be upgraded to 1,500, 5,000, 30,000 and with WinCC V6.0 SP2 to 80,000 archive tags. This allows powerful central archive servers with integrated Historian functionality to be set up. A new Microsoft Excel-based SmartTool, the Archive Conguration Tool, enables the convenient and quick conguration of a large number of archive tags including their archiving parameters. For this, an excel le (*.XLS) with multiple workbooks is created for each archive. Uncompressed and compressed WinCC process value archives can be created, deleted and edited. Previously, the individual values of archive tags with acquisition cycles of less than one minute were automatically saved in compressed form (Tag Logging Fast Archive), while the remaining values were saved uncompressed in another

Setting of the limit for the Measured Value Archiving (Fast/ Slow) archive (Tag Logging Slow Archive). Now, the congurator can select the assignment and thus the archiving mode (compressed / uncompressed) independent of the acquisition cycle.

SIMATIC WinCC V6.0 SP2 New Open Standards

Web-based communication via OPC XML XML (Extended Markup Language) provides an open, simple and interoperable format for data and client-server applications based on that data. While HTML merely shows texts in the Browser, XML allows intelligent data to be shown that describe the content as well as the display. With OPC XML V1.0, this is now also possible for the automation area using a manufacturer-independent communication protocol. XML is completely independent of the operating system, platform, transport protocol or manufacturer, but has been integrated by leading providers into their applications and operating systems. A large number of low-cost or free applications, tools and sources are available for XML. This takes place via integrated XML interfaces. Ofce packages, ERP/

PPS systems, SAP/R3, B2B portals and market places utilize XML for the seamless integration into the Web or between applications. The OPC XML DA client (DA = Data Access) is included in the delivery scope of WinCC V6.0 SP2. For the server functionality, the WinCC/Connectivity Pack V6.0 SP1 is required. As OPC server with XML interface, WinCC can send data directly to PPS/MES systems and vice versa receive job or recipe data. Whether the XML application is a Windows application or from another operating system is irrelevant.

WinCC/Server operational under Microsoft Windows Server 2003 With WinCC V6.0 SP2, the WinCC SCADA servers not only run under Windows 2000 Server, but also under Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2003 is based on the strengths of Windows 2000, but at the same time distinguishes itself through trend-setting improvements. Windows Server 2003 is a multi-purpose operating system that can take on different centralized or distributed tasks. It has all the features that customers expect of a company-critical operating system: Security, reliability, availability and scalability

SIMATIC WinCC V6.0 SP2 Expansions for the WinCC Options

Server farms with redundancy concept and load balancing In a coordinated system conguration, WinCC V6.0 permits a total of 12 WinCC servers and 32 WinCC clients per server. The servers themselves can be congured as a distributed system. The viewing of the entire system is realized via WinCC (SCADA) clients that simultaneously have access to or the view of screens and data from different server projects. Operator stations are also possible in the form of Web clients, since on each WinCC (SCADA) client, server or single-user system, a Web server can be set up as data concentrator. Each Web server in turn can supply up to 50 Web clients with current or historical process data. In mixed congurations with SCADA and Web clients, the following mixed quantity schedule limits - among others - can result (variations are possible): 50 WinCC Web clients and 1 WinCC SCADA-Engineering client, or 32 WinCC SCADA clients and 3 WinCC Web clients

With WinCC V6.0 SP2 and the options WinCC/Web Navigator V6.0 SP1 and WinCC/Dat@Monitor V6.0 SP1, server farms with multiple Web servers can now be congured. Required for this is a Load Balancing license for the participating Web servers. With load balancing, newly connected Web clients are automatically assigned to the Web server with the currently lowest load. The Web servers all have access to one and the same WinCC project and can be assigned up to 50 Web clients. In total, several hundred Web operator stations can be implemented . Should the assigned Web server fail, the clients will try to connect to another Web server of the server farm. This functionality can also be utilized for the switching of Web clients via redundant WinCC servers. For this, an upgrade license from pure redundancy operation to load balancing is available.

New possibilities for access and data exchange The WinCC/Industrial DataBridge uses standard interfaces to connect the automation level (controls) with the IT world and to ensure an information ow into both directions. The conguration is carried out economically (without programming) via a standard software. Typically, WinCC is the data source and an external SQL database or ofce package the data target. New in Version 6.0 SP1 are the access to historical data in the WinCC database via the WinCC OLE DB provider, dynamic SQL statements and the option to store data in CSV format.
